Leaving your ranks

After 10 years of being the most pro-homeschooling mom to my out-of-the-box children, I am putting my three boys into public school.
We have come to the conclusion that if we ever want to buy a house, we both need to work. I know there are lots of ways around this, but none of them work for us. I know that we could split our shifts, but my dh and I really like each other and value spending time together. We will both be in school this year and dh will be working as well. We broght the subject u to the boy sand they are really excited to go to school. We have them on the wait list for the cool alternative school in town, but we are enrolling them in the school that is in our neighborhood that is a "normal" school, although it definitely has some crunchy things happening in it. We love oru neighborhood and want to make the inesstment in helping create a great learning environment. Our boys are joyful and love to learn. I don't think they will lose that. My hubby is getting a degree in accounting so he will have the option of working from home in a few years, and then if anyone wants to come home they can.
But right now, they are excited about htis new adventure.

I hope this all works well for you.

I totally understand the money crunch!

Good luck with everything! It sounds like your whole family is on the same page.

All the kids I know who started out homeschooling and then went to school have done really, really well.

((HUGS))

I was also planning to HS all the way but had to start going to school and getting my nursing degree. Money is a big factor here, too. I was able to find a good charter school for my dd. She even had classes last year in a converted house. Not quite homeschooling, but the school has small numbers and the teachers and kids all know each other well. Kinda like a small village. I hope they get into the alternative school soon.

I hope your kids do okay in school. I know that with my dd, I had a much harder time than she did with adjusting.

Yes! They tend to be such enthusiastic learners, and haven't had the sort of pressures that can burn them out. Should be fun for them in view of the way they're approaching it. Lillian

The more I live, the more I see that EVERYTHING in life involves a trade off. I wish we could all have it all, but it isn't possible. It sounds like your family is all doing what they need to do right now.

Best wishes!

Oh by the way, we still homeschool our dd's. We do math and reading with my oldest a few times a week, and I'm about to start reading history stories at night. Just because they go to school doesn't mean you need to stop teaching them.
