For a boy we like Alexander Francis. Alexander is just a name we could both settle on (I did find out it's also my great-grandfather's name, so it works that way as well). Francis was my paternal grandfather's name and I really want one of my children to share that. Our girl name is Moira Emilie. Again, I've always just loved the name Moira. Emilie is a family name - my middle name, my mother's middle name and her godmother's middle name. I'm using the French spelling to honor my paternal grandmother since it was her first name, and again she was a really neat woman who I want to honor.

What do y'all think about Cedar McKenzie for a boy? Is it too...hippie-crunchy?
We've decided on Sean Charles or Isabella Marie I am happy with both choices and I am happy to say at 14 weeks now I don't have to think about names anymoe
post #5 of 59
Ooh, I like Cedar.

OK, our update. I've settled comfortably into the glowing madonna/ bovine stupefaction phase of pregnancy, apart from my stupid effing hip which keeps on falling apart every time DH and I try to DTD Kids are great, Skye keeps pointing to my tummy and saying "baby, baby" and I tidied my son's bedroom. Pictures are on the blog (two posts down) and comments would be appreciated for me to show them.

Name-wise, a girl will be Willow Jean or Willow Jeanne- Willow because it's seasonal, and pretty, and Jean is after my mother. My mum's twin sister, who died before I was born, was called Anne so we're thinking about putting the two back together with our youngest daughter's name.
With a boy, its more difficult. Skye would have been called Logan Douglas if she'd been a boy (after Wolverine and my uncle, one of my favourite people) and we'd like to use the name again. BUT. My cretinous ex-husband called his new son Joshua Logan and it feels like the name isn't ours any more. Yes, he knew that name was on our list. He used it anyway So, I don't know. Steve keeps talking about the name River, or maybe Ocean, but I don't know- the meaning feels right, that this child feels very laid-back but with real strength there, but I don't want something quite as hippy-ish. I want to find a celtic/gaelic name with a similar meaning, I think: so please don't suggest Kai. That just smacks of cultural imperialism to me.

Hello all! I love looking at all the different names everyone comes up with! It's amazing the variety in just the smallest group of people!

Well we're certainly set on the girl's name, and almost on the boy's. We've got Senara Elena for a girl and Hektor ????? for a boy. I'd like to come up with something mythologically based (not neccesarily Greek), but haven't settled on anything just yet. Everyone says it's going to be a girl, so I won't need to bother. I just know, though, if we don't have the middle name, we will need it.

Heard the babe's heartbeat again last week - right in the 150's which the CNM said was good, and my sister said "GIRL!" about! ha! She, my mom and Mr Toona have all had dreams it's a girl. The only dream I've really had though is that when the babe came, I freaked out because it was all white instead of half white/half black and that was because the baby was Gilbert Blythe's from Anne of Green Gables (the PBS show). I had such a crush on him in High School. heh.

For a girl we are pretty sure we're going with Persephone Jade. (PJ
Boys name is not totally final, but we're leaning towards Odin Christopher. Boys names are always so much harder for me to think about. I seem to have a million girl names I wanna use though!

I've got names rolling around my head. My husband and I have only briefly discussed the matter. He likes the most boring names... but this is the last baby, so I may be able to talk him into something more interesting. Here's hoping! :

For our names I think we came to an agreement on Lilly Pope for a girl, Pope is dh's moms maiden name. I just found it in my head and now it is stuck. For a boy all dh has come up with is Jack. I like it but I feel like it is a girl, but we will see.

I know I am still not feeling great, yesterday and today I have had diarrhea and may need to cal the dr. I sleep ok and have an achy back. Work is tough but mostly b/c I am standing and sitting on the floor a lot. I had a dream last night that I was at work and my knee gave out, not fun.

I hopefully found a free doula that I am excited about, She is still in training but I am ok with that.

well I need to go shower and try to eat...

We are totally undecided for a boy. Marilyn Amelia is our girls name.

adelaide for a girl... i'll take any suggestions you have for a middle name.

cash mccullah for a boy.
The name game is a little bit of a sensitive issue in our house lately.
I really think the baby is a girl, and luckily we have 2 girl names nailed down.
Beatrix Gabrielle (Beatrix after Beatrix Potter, and Gabrielle after my step-mom)
Marilla Gabrielle (Marilla after Anne's daughter in Rilla of the Island, I initally just wanted it to be Rilla, but really her full name is Marilla (after Anne's mom), but then it would be silly when I called her My Rilla (like in the book), so Marilla it is, but we will call her Rilla.)

I prefer Marilla, but DH prefers Beatrix, I really love them both, so I"ll prolly let him decide.

For a boy, it's more difficult. I have so many names I love which Dh doesn't love, like Malachi, Gilbert (I really loved the Anne of Green Gables series) and George (after my grandpa).

DH loves Archer, Ptollomy, and Trayjen. (the 2nd is a great mathmetician or scientist, and Trayjen in my DH's opinion was the greatest Roman Emperor)

So because I don't like those names I tried to come up with a theme my DH loves and it was scientists, so our boys name list which we seem to like is
Darwin Murphy (Murphy after my step-mom, it's her family name)
Edison Murphy

We both prefer Darwin, but I'm worried if I will be condemning my baby to a difficult life using such a controversial name. We're not trying to make a statement with it, although we both respect the heck out of Charles Darwin, but we don't want to upset anyone with this choice (not in our families in general)

Edison has some concerns because it sounds like Addison which is a popular girls name.

Anyhow what do you think? Are my choices completely crazy? Or just my rationalizations? tee hee.

Don't forget I'm convinced it's a girl. But DH thinks it's a boy.

Working hard on this one!!!!

For a boy, right now, we have Finnian Tate.

For a girl, there's a list. Rose will most likely be her middle name (it's part of my maiden name).
First names:
-Emilia (bc I LOVE Emma, which would have been DS's name if he'd been a girl...and then Rachel and Ross had to go and name their baby Emma -- the same night DS was born, mind you LOL. Now it's still in the top 2 names...so I'm hoping if I use Emilia, I can call her Emma but she still has a different name to use when she wants to be set apart more. Let me know your thoughts on this, please!)
-Madison (DH's new fav)
-Mckenzie (mind you our son is Mickade though so I don't know about that)

Shoot there are more....I'll remember later and add them LOL.

I love this - I may have to steal it

I had my chiro appt this morning so my back is all happy. The Bean seems to be doing well, lots of movement in the evening (his favorite time apparently). Pregnancy-wise the only thing that slightly worries me is that I haven't gained any weight - in fact I think I've actually lost a few pounds but the extra weight from the babe cancels it out (I can tell my face looks a bit thinner - that's always the first place I show weight loss). I know for a woman my size it's completely normal and maybe even healthy for me to not gain anything, but it still freaks me out a bit. I'm not eating much, but the bulk of what I do eat is nutrient dense and I've been trying to balance complex carbs with protien. The only thing that worries me slightly is that because I'm still getting nauseous a few times a day and so many things are unappealing to me it's very easy for me to forget to eat. It'll be dinner time and I'll be trying to figure out why I have the shakes and a headache and then I'll realise it's because I never ate anything for lunch. Is anyone else dealing with this?

Keep the names coming - it's so cool to see what others are thinking of, especially since my own choices are so staid.

I love the name Emilia! I've always been a fan of the Emma's and Emily's, but with their popularity I'm leery to use them. But I think that Emilia is similar but different enough that in her grade 4 class there won't be one of 6 other Emilias! It is quite similar to Amelia though, and people may spell and pronounce it as such.

I bring this up because I have one of those names that are constantly spelled and pronounced wrong, and it drives me batty.

Jenn, I don't think Alexander is a particularly staid name. You do have to think about the Alex when he's good/Alexander when he's naughty thing, though Every Alex I know talks about this a lot, and I've never heard it happen with any other boys name.

Dea, the mathematician was Ptolemy- don't call your kid that, huh? Not if you have to think about how to spell it. Personally I like Darwin, but I'd go read some biographies of him before you decide. Back then, there were some very fluffy moral values floating around that you might not want your son to share.

I love the names people are coming up with, I especially like Willow, it's so beautiful. I am liking the name Lilith if our babe's a girl, Lilith Devorah. Lilith being the first wife of Adam and the first feminist! And Devorah for my aunts twin who died of SIDS, she has asked that we use her name. We haven't discussed boy names, but I am sure my H is leaning towards Jacob after a very dear friend of our who passed away unexpectedly about a month ago, though we would call him Jack, his Hebrew name would be Yakov, which would be Jacob...you get the idea. And maybe...Saul for a middle name after my grandfather. I also like the name Ruth for a girl. We're sticking with the biblical, our dc's are Sarah, after H's grandmother who died in Holocaust, Samuel, my great grandfather as well he was born on his Yarzheit(sp?)or the anniversary of his passing and Rachel... who was one of my FIL's aunts who died in the Holocaust. I also like the name Ruth, and we would end up calling her Ruthy or Ru-ru for the rest of her life, it can't be helped, Sarah is Rara, Samuel is Sammy or Shmulick or Samurai, and Rachel is Ray Ray or Rachalah.

Oh, that shakey twisted feeling when you haven't eaten in awhile yup, I get it too.

Yeah, I thought about that too. Though the pronunciation is so subtley different, that doesn't bother me. Our son is Mickade and no one gets that right even when they read it (it's pronounced like McKade, the way we apparently should have spelled it LOL). Sometimes I think there's no winning, we did his more phonetical and they still get it wrong LOL.

i love that no one on this thread is going with trendy names! i don't know why it bugs me sooo much, maybe because i live in cali? there are like 1000's of kids with the same name. everyone has an emma, a gabriel, a kai

i have a fairly uncommon name and dh has a very traditional name. we named our dd something beautiful, rarely heard and powerful. i'm having a hard time coming up with names that have those qualities. for some reason though i have stuck on the name Banyan Theodore. i love all things little women. both of dd's names come from little women, from a character josephine writes about in her stories. also, the dead's Banyan Tree has been playing in my head ever since i conceived.

but i'm concerned that Banyan could become a trendy name, even though it is very hippie-ish. all i know is that our son is going to be named after a tree!

Oooh...you guys have some great names.

I'm getting strong boy vibes so I like the name Gladwyn Charles. His nickname will be Glad.

Not much so far for a girl, though.
