Has anyone dyed their prefolds? I'm getting 2 dozen in and I want to dye them. How did you do it? How much dye should I use to get a good, strong color? Any advice/experiences would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I just use a cheap basic walmart tye-dying kit on mine with no problems. They did not run or irritate DS's skin at all. I want to dye some more but woudl liek to try a more natural approach and dye using thinsg like red onion peels, berries, brown egg shells , etc... Anyone had any experience with this and how did you do it?

I used RIT dye from walmart and the color is beautiful...i used 3 gallons of water and 3/4 of a bottle of the liquid dye and they are super dark. Someone told me RIT runs though so i am going to try dylon for the rest of the colors...i also bought a color setter from joanns online. The dylon is all on sale right now.

For a natural approach, i know coffee works great! if you like brown i guess

Get some fiber reactive dyes like Procion. They absolutely do not run when you wash several colors together in hot. Dharma Trading Company sells them online. If you get Yellow, Turquoise and Fuschia, you can mix any color you like. I dyed these diapers with the Procion and they haven't faded a bit.

Oh, thanks! I actually made those for my sister's second baby in an attempt to turn her on to cloth diapering. I figured that if I made them more like sposies (fitted), she would be more inclined to use them. Regardless of design, the laundry aspect just didn't appeal to her. So, I am hoping to get them back for my second babe due in January.

The Procion dyes have lasted me forever. I still haven't tried tie-dyeing yet, but I'd really like to soon. I also used the dyes to dye my indian prefolds and they really rock. It's really addictive. My family always knows what I've been up to because of my purple cuticles!

I've used dylon for most of my prefolds with good effect and no fading. I think I'll try procion dyes next for more colors.
