The Birth Bead Swap is now officially closed.

And the final count is...............................

30!:

So here's what we need to do now:

Make or buy beads. Send them to me along with a SASE. The deadline for sending the beads is October 31. I will bead as fast as I may, and will send out finished pieces as they are completed.

Please post any questions here, and I will check the thread every day.

When you are ready to send beads pm me and I will give you my address.

Thanks mamas! I can't wait to start on your Birth Beads. This means so much to me, you are all a great source of strength and support in a special and rare time in my life, and I thank you from my heart.

I'm ready whenever you are, scarletbegonias; I couldn't resist picking my beads up while I was shopping for my swapmate today.

It's a good thing, too, since I just joined the ranks of the unemployed immediately after my shopping trip.

I'm sure I got enough for everybody and I LOVE them! I didn't spend very much, either. I hope nobody lets financial difficulties keep them from participating in this one, because the POINT is to have some small, tangible object that was chosen by and represents each one of us to give us strength and support and remind us of how loved we are while we are in labour.

I am UCing, so I do have the luxury of posting here during labour if it feels like the right thing to do, but not all of you will have accesss to computers or feel that this is appropriate, so the little bead that represents me on the strand will be cheering you on and celebrating with you and giving you something to hold on to and remind you of how much your friendship and cameraderie has meant to me during the last 16 weeks and the 24 weeks yet to come. It isn't much, but it is tangible, and a tiny piece of me that can come along on the end of your pregnancy journey and the beginning of your parenting journey.

If you don't think that you can afford to join, please reconsider and know that a lump of dried play-dough or a piece of a stick with a hole in it or a diamond-shaped piece of paper saturated with elmer's glue and rolled around a needle to dry is still a small piece of yourself that I and others will very much appreciate and treasure for years to come.

Thank you so much for organizing this, Lacy.

thank you for your elegantly put post spider!

i want to emphasize that the beads do not have to be all the same and homemade beads are perfect! the only thing you would have to pay for is postage to me (CA) and a sase. for those in the states, it shouldn't cost more than $3 to send them.

the only way *i* was able to afford to buy enough beads is:

the bead store was having a $1 grab bag sale.

i got there early.

and i ended up with 4 different types of beads. (all polished stone, different colors/cuts)

you have 2 1/2 more weeks to join!

Me! Me! I'd like to do it!!!

I'll pm you my info

Spider put it all so beautifully! I am really looking forward to how special this necklace will be and the positive energy it will contain. It means so much for everyone to take the time and participate, I know I will treasure this necklace forever! I can even see oneday passing it on to my daughter(s) to wear during their delivery!

Yeah. The Nov05 DDC are doing a life bead swap, partly for the time we're spending together with a new little one and because so many of us (13, at last count- maybe more) are pregnant again and due within a few months of each other.

I was wondering about how many beads to I actually need to get? I (like a lot of mamas here) am on a small budget and want to get just enough you know?

I would imagine that once the swap is closed that will be able to be more exactally calculated. Look for sales at places like Michaels or Joann's Fabric. You can usually get a nice bunch of beads for a few dollars!

day the swap closes, i will pm everyone a final count and my address to send the beads to. more details will be in that pm, such as what if there are extra beads, if you wanted a braclet vs a necklace etc etc

the count is pushing 30 right now and mamas still have 2 1/2 weeks to sign up, although i may close it a *little* early.

check this post for updates!

i can't wait to start creating a unique piece for each mama!:

I can't tell you how excited I am! It will be one of the most meaningful keepsakes I've received in my life. I envision giving it to my daughter one day too.

I also plan to save it for the baby (expecially if its a girl) to be given some day, perhaps when she is expecting her first child.
