tying shoes... - Page 2

There are two ways to tie shoes... there's the make a loop, wrap the lace around it, stick a loop through, pull it out, and tighten way that I learned, and most people from my generation learned... and there's the make two loops and tie them in an overhand knot way that I learned about when Rain was little. Rain didn't find it easier, but most kids I've known have.

She rode a two-wheeler at four... and I have no idea when she learned to tie her shoes. It wasn't memorably early or late, so maybe 5 or 6?

Leila just really really really wanted to tie her own shoes & learned to do so within a couple weeks at age 3 I think she was inspired by all the different types of knots my dad makes?

Although, she's still not riding a 2 wheel bike without training wheels (or knee, elbow & wrist guards, let alone helmet: because she just keeps on falling even with the training wheels -- prob'ly because her long legs required the biggger/taller bike while all the other kids were still in short bikes )

Leila's somewhat exceptional though. Gregory just doesn't WANT to learn. Ah, well, I gave up and bought him a pair of Land's End slip-on mocs. LOL

My son is almost 4 just learned to ride a bike and is now learning to tie his shoes. I sat behind him and held his hand while his hands held the laces and we went through it together. He'll probably get it in a few days. Once he wants to learn something it doesn't take long.

I don't have any advice for ya, hopefully soon he'll decide he wants to learn, thats usually all it takes. They have to want it...atleast with my son anyway.
