has anyone had any good experiances taking paxil while breast feeding a lo?

Missy4 did you start taking it right after delivery or already during pregnancy?

I started the day of delivery, and it's working great for me with no ill effects for my little one

i started taking paxil at 9 months pp and am still now, at 20 months pp. no effects for dd, at all. just don't miss a dose. the withdrawal dizziness and headaches, even missing one dose, is rough. THAT effects dd...my crankiness.

paxil saved my life, or close to it, and would not hesitate to recc to anyone else. i've done a ton of reading on it, and have observed dd very closely, and have no reservations.

The only thing I have to say is that coming off of paxil was awful. The withdrawal was worst than quitting smoking. I had to wean off very slowly, the dizzy cranky sick feeling thing would come otherwise. I am on zoloft now and like it a lot better, but I would say whatever works best for you.

the worst thing i EVER did was take paxil.

i went in for a crick in my neck and was advised that it was most likely the stress...and given paxil. yes, my neck got better. however, when i tried getting off of that stuff...it was...undescribable.

electrical shocks going through my whole body. passing out and hitting the floor. crawling on my hands and knees, puking everywhere.

and they don't classify it as withdrawal, you see...cause you don't get an effect when you TAKE paxil, you just have negative effects when you quit it.

OMG that is a horrible scary story! I'm so sorry you went through that loriforeman. How did you come off Paxil? Just all of a sudden? Or slowly weaning off, medically supervised?

first, i just missed a pill. not on purpose...and was on my hands and knees.

a few weeks later, i missed another...and the same thing happened, only a bit worse. i barely got off the road before wrecking, and my teenager had to drive us home. i realized that it wasn't my blood sugar or anything else, because SHE put two and two together.

i had planned to get off of the pills...my doc had never mentioned "stepping down", just that i needed to speak with him before we discontinued to make certain of our plan of action. as i had never been depressed in the FIRST place...and my neck was better, so i didn't need them anymore.

after just MISSING them, i decided i'd better talk to jeff. he gave me several sample packs to step-down with...and even going that route was painful. my fingers felt like they were on fire, zaps happening throughout my entire body. i passed out maybe five times or so, and threw up my lunch more than i care to admit. he offered me more pills...but after this, i refused. i'll be damned if anything will have THAT kind of hold over me.

i do know a few that weren't able to get off of them...and just would rather continue than go through getting off.

So sorry that happened to you. It's pretty well known the you shouldn't discontinue SSRI's abruptly, but take months in some cases to wean. It is awful to go off them cold turkey for some people.

Most people will not have those effects. Paxil is one of the shorter half lives, so it is sometimes harder to stop. But most people do it without any trouble.

I just don't want someone to read about one awful experience and be afraid to try anything. A lot of times, if someone has a lot of trouble weaning, their psychiatrist will prescribe a tiny dose of prozac to help. Prozac has the longest half life, so the least withdrawl symptoms.

Again, so sorry that happened to you and glad you got through it.

I use Paxil. I see nothing diff with DS. I started to take Zoloft when i was about 6months PG. After the birth it seem to work but just had to keep going up with the dose. So after hitting the top with zoloft i was put on Paxil. It seems to work. I do know that if I miss a pill i become really moody and one time i thought i didnt need the pills anymore and stopped taking them.... it was bad.... i went back on them and all the side effects stopped

My mom was prescribed Paxil (I just found out this morning)...she was only on for a few weeks but found it helpful. (I remember now, looking back, when I was a teen....it got her up off the couch and cooking for us! Whee! ) She stopped abruptly without side effects. Perhaps that was because she was only on for a few (2 or a bit more) weeks. Perhaps it was a low dose, or her physiology. I can't say for sure.

I have been on paxil for 6 years, through both pregnancies and have been nursing for 5 of those years: . Besides gaining 30 lbs, I have had nothing but positive experiences. When I forget to take a pill, I start to feel nauseous and hot. The feeling goes away in about a 1/2 after taking my meds. On paxil I am reasonable, calm, have a sense of humour, and hardly feel irritable. I also have tons more energy! I had to take it for over a month before I felt the results. I am nervous about ever going off, but being on it is totally worth it to me.
