My Postpartum Peri bottle has a concoction of Purified Water, Witch hazel (about 1/2 and 1/2) a few drops of TTO and about 10 drops of lavender. I found this so helpful and soothing last time.
What's in yours?
I add all kinds of things for general use, either almond oil, olive oil or vitamin E, GSE, lavendar, TTO.
But I was JUST starting to look into what to use for postpartum use, so this was a timely thread! I'm going to try yours first.
I've got an extra peri bottle coming w/my birth kit & I want to make some of my 'new mama tush soak' for it.
That is a great website! Thanks for posting! As for my peri bottle I think I'll do half witch hazel, half H2O, and a few drops of TTO. What does the almond or olive oil do in the peri bottle?
Afterpains get more intense each time. Labor and delivery aren't so bad - you know it is coming and you get a sweet babe out of the deal. Afterpains on the other hand really can set you back just when you were hoping to feel better.
There has to be better things to think about right now.
Don't feel dumb, how would you know unless you asked?
A peri bottle is basically a small squirt bottle of sorts. Women fill it with different solutions and after birth whenever you use the bathroom it is a good idea to wash off your vaginal and rectal areas. This prevents germs and infections, some of the stuff helps heal the area in general as well as any abrasions, tears, hemrroids. If you have the right concoction it can be downright soothing to that very sensitive area. Besides wiping is not the way to go, you'll want to be patting dry, but making sure you are getting clean down there. It's good to keep in the bathroom(s)
my sister hooked me up with the makings for one.
her recipe:
2 drops lav/cham oil
2 drops st. johns wort oil
1 drop tea tree oil
warm water
she used it after her birth and swears by it. she said she felt back to normal in about a week.
Omigod just water at the diaper table! I didn't even think of this. I knew I should have gotten witch hazel through my last co-op. I guess it will be water, tto and witch hazel. I don't even remember what I did last time. Just water maybe? It wasn't very soothing.
Would distilled water and just some almond oil also be soothing?
What kind of witch hazel do you buy? I've just seen the humphreys, but was wondering if there was something good and cheaper for all that peri-bottle squeezing. :/
Great ideas ladies. This will be so much more smoothing than just tap water.
I remember liking really warm water so I guess I could keep the balance of the mixture ready and then just add the hot water to the witch hazel and tto/lavendar oil.
Thanks, I hit Target about 100 times a month, so I'll look for it. Although one cheap one found online had alcohol in it instead of 100% witch hazel, so I hope it doesn't! Is that bad? Or is a little OK for those delicate postpartum issues?
I just returned from the health-food store, where I went to try to find some herbs for my sitz bath. I couldn't find the herbs I was looking for (it's a dinky, tiny store), but they did have an already-made-up sitz bath, called "New Mama." I don't like the fact that it doesn't state exactly everything that's in it, but it's the very best I could do.
Anyhow. I post this here because I have a feeling I'll be using this very same solution in my peri bottle!
