Uniforms

Where's a cheap place to buy uniforms? We start school next week and I'm at a loss as to how we're going to afford her uniforms.
It doesn't help that we just found out today that uniforms are required and we're a week away from the first day!:

Sigh, I hate uniforms. BUT everyone seems to have them now.

I've seen them at target and walmart for sure.

They do seem like they are everywhere. I've seen them at Target and Old Navy.

What does your school's uniform look like?

Do you have Burlington Coat Factory? They had a lot of choices at ours.

Our uniform is khaki pants/skirts, white or navy polos and navy cardigans.
I'll have to check and see if we have a Burlington coat, thanks!

Does your school have a uniform exchange program? I know our school does -- and it was a big help to me last year.

I've found really good bargains at Mervyns for things without logos. Unfortunately, everything except the shorts/pants for my son's stuff has to have the school logo on it, restricting us to the single company that the school works with. Now that gets expensive!

Good quality (and better fabric) but slightly higher prices from Land's End. I love their clothes but sometimes have to struggle with the pricing a bit.

The nice thing about uniforms is that once you get started I'm pretty convinced they are cheaper than buying lots of options. If you don't mind doing laundry a lot you can buy just a few pieces. If you are really tight on the budget right now, that might be the answer for the short term. No one can tell that she only has 1-2 pair of pants because they all look the same.

And if uniforms are new for your school, definitely have someone set up a uniform exchange system for next year. Our school is really basic -- drop off clean stuff you have outgrown and pick up anything you can use in the future -- no money involved. If you have a child with an easy size it can be really great.

The thrift stores in my area often pull out uniform clothes and display them at the front of the store (often on sale) in the weeks before school starts.

Do you have a Saver's near you? Khakis shouldnt be too hard to find in good ocndition as little boys grow out of them so fast. Old Navy has plain navy polos, I am pretty sure. What about Kmart, Sears or JCpenny? They aren't as cheap as Old Navy, but maybe they have sales for back to school?
