does membrane sweeping hurt?

Someone mentioned to me its more painful than a contraction.
I can get the sweep done next tuesday if i want.
But from what I'm hearing I dont' really want to, I'm so sensitive down there, just getting an exam hurts and is uncomfortable for me.

It didn't hurt - but it feels exactly like it sounds. It was done without my consent and I knew exactly what she was doing.

It wasn't confortable and although it didn't put me into labour right away - it did put me in crampy unconfortableness right away.

Unless you are trying to delay induction - or are REALLY past due - I woudn't bother...

I had it done and it didn't do a thing to put me into labor.

It wasn't much more uncomfortable than a pelvic exam for me, but I also have a high pain tolerance.

It wasn't really painful for me. It was a bit more uncomfortable than a vaginal exam, for sure, but I wouldn't say 'painful'. I'm a wimp too! I had it done last Friday. It didn't do much, if anything. If I make it to my appointment this Friday I'll have her do it again.

Just make sure to tell your doc/midwife to go slow and take her/his time. Its when they try to rush it that is hurt IME.

wasn't painful, but didn't bring on labor either..did give me horrible cramping for nearly 24 hrs. though. I was only a couple of days past due date though.

You know there is risk of ROM when they do that, right?

I found it painful when done w/DS1.

Luckily I didn't need it for this one.

had it done during a long, very slowly progressing hard labor. it was pretty uncomfortable but only lasted a minute and def sped things up.

it is painful/moderately uncomfortable if you are not very dilated and your cervix isnt effacing. i.e. your cervix is not ready for laboring. it did nothing wiht my first but definately started the process with this one. i had them do it at 2 different appts 3 days apart

I had it done today by my midwife. I am 1.5cm dilated she said. It was a bit uncomfortable but not enough to make me say "ow" - less painful than ear piercing or the ice in the hand from Bradley class. I haven't been in labor yet I so can't compare to contractions sorry

Ok so if your cervix is not ready it could be painful, if your already dilated it probably wont be that uncomfortable...I should find out if I'm dilated before they do it.
My DP is taking holidays for 2 weeks when baby arrives, but his boss is making him take it from monday so we really want labor to start asap.

I had it today!!! Didn't hurt at all, but was uncomfortable.
I'm 2cm and thinned out almost completely.
Doc thinks I will deliver this week.

But today after the sweep I had no cramping and no show...it's only been 2hrs after though, when do u usually notice something?

Didnt hurt me any really but it didnt put me into labor either. It did cause cramping and I started loosing my plug the next day but I didnt go into labor for 2 more days. With ds it did nothing not even my plug but the mw told me sweeping only works in first time mom's. and even then about a 50/50 shot.
