how do i felt a sweater?

i have a few wool sweater which i would like to make covers out of...but i dont know exactly how to felt a sweater... please help me!lol....

Wash in hot water and dry on high Some people do it a few times (2 or 3) to get the maximum shrink, but that reduces the stretchiness.

Seconded. You might not even have to use the dryer, depending on how hot your water gets.

Ditto the pp's...! BUT I want to add because of my own (dumb!) personal experience: whatever you do, do not cut the sweater first!!! It will unravel and you will be picking small linty wool bits out of your washer and plumbing for YEARS afterwards... doh!

Also, don't forget to put a few other items in the wash with it. The agitation will help the felting.

After you felt it, can you just cut and sew it like any other fabric? And you also have to lanolin-ize these things too, right?
