I'm looking for some, too. Last year I read The Curve of Time by M. Wylie Blanchet. It was indirectly inspiring, as she was a young widow with five kids in the early 20th century and I was impressed with how well she not only took control of the situation but really embraced it in a way. The book is a travelogue firstly, so it is very heavy on natural details and I could see where some might find it a bit dry.

Other than that I've been searching but haven't found much.

Drinking the Rain, by Alix Kates Shulman

A Midwife's Tale, by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

Songs of the Gorilla Nation, by Dawn Prince-Hughes

“Until Our Hearts Are On the Ground”
: Aboriginal Mothering, Oppression, Resistance and Rebirth, edited by D. Memee Lavell-Harvard and Jeannette Corbiere Lavell - this is a collection of papers, but some of the stories are amazing and inspiring.

Search Amazon.com or half.com for the "Uppity Women" series by Vicki Leon.

In the name of Honor: A Memoir by Mukhtar Mai. I sobbed at her nightmare, her strength and honesty while reading it. Mukhtar Mai was the Pakistani woman who was gang raped as tribal court ordered punishment for something her brother was falsely accused. But instead of killing herself (honourable in her village) she decided to fight to bring her perpetrators to justice. She and a close friend fought hard and have since opened up a school in the village to try and change the way young girls and women are treated. She's definitely a huge shero of mine.

I just finished Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali and I highly recommend it. She's a remarkable woman who was born in Somolia, circumsized at age 4. She escaped an arranged marriage and later became a member of the Dutch parliament.
