I need you ladies expertise and wisdom

I have been asked by my homeschool group to talk to them about Traditional Foods. I mentioned that we ate this way and they're all very interested and want to learn more. So one of the ladies is hosting a get together at her house.

This is a bit overwhelming for me as I tend to get tongue tied with all the thoughts running through my head and want to make sure I present the right and most important information.

I'm going to bring "the book" of course....but I know these ladies are going to want as much info as they can get and I need help. Anything regarding studies, health affects, what's so wrong with regular food, etc.

I've already thought of the price foundation website and realmilk, but what else? I'm looking for links, info that you have off the top of your head, or any other resources! Help me make a case for Traditional Foods!

Thank you.

My husband's uncle is a retired food technologist and he gives a lecture series called "Space-Age Food for Stone-Age People". It's a nice, catchy title that I'm sure he wouldn't mind you borrowing. He uses it to get people thinking about how our bodies haven't evolved yet to thrive on unnaturally processed food.

Oh, I would love if I got to do something like that. What great oppurtunity!

My favorites are the pictures and info that Weston Price gathered on his travels. I was blown away when I saw WAPF brochures and his book of perfect smiles and radiant faces conpared to the people on the modernized diet. It is amazing that their teeth are straight and healthy without a dentist or orthodontist. Also where he talks about the difference in childbirth and turberculosis rates in the modernized vs. primitive people in NandPD is good info. That stuff hooked me in and then I was more open to raw milk, organ meats and all that "weird" stuff

Can you order or print off any WAPF brochures? The long one has good pictures on it. Then they can also have something with them with the web address to go investigate the website and other sources.

I think you will just have to see what peoples questions and concerns are. I can guess that it will be 1) raw milk is not safe 2) cholesterol/saturated fats/animal products are bad for me. Maybe research those 2 hot topics the most. The myths and truths about vegetarianism is a good review of why animal products are healthy: http://www.westonaprice.org/mythstru...tarianism.html

The real milk site is good for raw milk info. You are much more likely to get food posioning from produce or pasturized milk than raw milk.

Maybe for fun you could bring some traditional foods over for a little sample.

Best wishes and let us know how it went!

Thanks for your help. I do agree those will probably be hot topics! I'll see what I can find.

I'd love to bring samples, but I'll have to see how our budget is. I could maybe make a list of a typical week for us and talk about how I find the time, how to store stuff, where to find it, prices etc.

I think I'll also check out the link here about eating TF on a budget because I imagine some of them (me included) will be curious about how to afford it.

Just bring a jar of freshly lacto-fermented pickles. Then everyone can have a bite and you're only out the cost of a couple cucumbers

Good idea!

I just don't know how I'm going to explain the bread to them because um, I'm no good at it.

I've been looking for resources too to show my friends I'm not nuts.

There's this web site: http://www.nourishingourchildren.org/index.html although it's somewhat bare-bones

That's a wonderful link, thank you!

Thanks for the offer Spartz, but I'm not sure it would be here in time. I'm doing it on Monday! : Although it does sound very interesting...................

Have you read the Maker's Diet? Very good information in there. I have it somewhere, but honestly, am too lazy to go dig it up for you. I know he also lists in there his resources.

No I haven't read that but I've heard good things about it. Would like to read it sometime. I don't think I'll get to read it before then but that might be a good one to mention to people since most of them are Christians anyway. Although, I think it is a bit different than NT.

I'm thinking of putting together a list of all the ingredients found in foods that are bad and why they are bad. I know NT has a few, but I'm talking like BHA linked to cancer, Yeast extract=msg etc. Does anyone know where a good comprehensive list like this exists? Or do I have to make my own?

Well, as for the Maker's DIet, his research, though he started from a Christian perspective, is all backed up by science/medical research, so even for those who are not Christian would find it a good source of information. That was one of the things I really liked about it --it was all backed up by solid evidence and not just a theory of how God did things.

I think printing out this page would be a great handout and excellent basis to outline a talk:
