Combating symptoms/ I love my MW!

Anyone else having to go through this?

I have been suffering from swollen feet and last week my BP was 120/86. My MW got concerned and I am now on a 120g protein diet a day. Increased my calcium and added some other herbal supplements. It brought my BP down to 110/78 this week. But my feet are still swollen.
I am under strict orders to leave work. So now I am going to work part time next week (2 days a week) until my due date before I take my official maternity leave. MW wants me to lie down on my left side and take it easy, rather then sitting at my desk all day.

I think I am going to gag from all the protein I need to consume, but I'd rather do that then end up in the hospital with high BP and my liver caving on me.

I am certain that if I was going to a regular OB that treatment would be WAY different and unsuccessful. So I am grateful that I have a MW.

i had high bp and swollen feet when i was pg with my first. my OB pulled me from work at 33 weeks and told me to stay off my feet. he did run labs for HELLP, which i appreciated because i was spilling protein as well as gaining 3-5 lbs every other day but other than that he was very laid back about it. i wasn't on bedrest, but i was supposed to lay down a lot with my feet up

the ONLY thing he never suggested was increasing protein.

i don't think i could force that much protein into myself LOL. kuddos to you!

I did have a rapid weight gain in a two week span, and I was shocked. After I started on the protein I lost 2 pounds in just a few days.
Now this last week I only gained 1 pound.
I'm not spilling any protein in my urine and my MW did run blood work for my liver. Every thing was on the high side of normal, but protein/albumin was definitely low, as well as salt.

I think that something serious got nipped in the bud.

I have swollen feet like you wouldn’t believe. I can’t even feel my toes and it is so painful. My midwife just took my bp on Tuesday and it was 110/79. I am not spilling protein either. She told me to take 3 alfalfa tablets 3 times a day and up my protein. I am still working though and not looking forward to the next 2 weeks : I am not on maternity leave till Sept. 14.

It is so hard with the swollen feet. My DH massages them and I just about cry they hurt. I am REALLY hoping that the swelling goes down once I leave the desk.
I guess there is worse things that could happen to us and this IS only a temporary thing. Just need to stick it out a few more weeks.

when i had the swollen feet the ONLY thing that helped them not hurt and feel better was to freeze wet dish rags. then take them out and wrap them around my feet.

i had horrible pitting edema from my toes all the way up to my boobs. even my back and belly would pit. it was quite disgusting! but my feet hurt the worst. dunking them in icy water helped a little too.

I was in the exact same boat a few weeks ago.

I gagged down chicken after chicken to up the protein. I took the calcium/magnesium plus other liver support herbs.

Within 24 hours I was improving and after a week I was able to ease up on the pushing of all the food.

The swelling has been a challenge. But i have it under control. I've been paying attention to hydration and salt intake (as in more of both) and tasking it easy in the heat. I just have to lay down and rest more when I swell. It really sucks that 5 minutes outside in central Florida heat with DD can trigger Shrek feet.

You are doing the best thing for yourself Momma! Gagging down extra food is so much better than being induced/sectioned for pre-e!

It sounds like your midwife is taking good care of you. I'm glad.

So, what does one have to eat to get 120 g of protein?

Now that I am not in front of my computer everyday I am falling behind on some of these postings.

Minnow~ In order to get that much protein I am eating meat at breakfast and a protein shake with spirulina added. For snack I am eating cottage cheese with fruit, for lunch I am eating some sort of meat and or burritos with beans, for mid day snack I'm eating yogurt with almonds or hummus with almond crackers or some sort of cheese. At dinner it's more meat and my veggies and salads with sunflower seeds.
Seems to get me to 120g a day! And these are things that I can eat. If I could eat eggs or soy it wouldn't even be an issue.
