I miss Vinyl.

I am sitting here listening to Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode & 'To Have & To Hold' came on & I got a weird deja vu feeling & was sad. I miss sitting in my room listening to vinyl records. Don't you ever wish you could go back to your teenage years & early 20's for just a short time? I had a wonderful childhood & I loved jr high & high school (I hated actual school but I was a social butterfly & loved going dancing & to concerts...) so I wax nostalic about it alot... plus I was much thinner back then!

I miss the way the seeds rolled down open album covers and went right into the crease and then into the ashtray so neatly.

Sigh ...

:

Ya' can't do that with CDs. You know?

Get thee to a record shop ASAP! No need to wax nostalgic when there's still so much awesome vinyl (retro and brand new!) around. We're huge vinyl listeners here. Many of our fave bands put their stuff out on vinyl as well as CD and of course record shops are full of used stuff too. Vinyl sounds better.

I needed that right about now.

(Typed as I listen to music piped through the stereo system via the Mac. CDs loaded onto iTunes. Talk about quality bummer. Vinyl is rich.)

If you miss vinyl... Come to my house!!! My DP is a huuuuge record collector - he has like 400 pieces of vinyl, and has them set up in a bin that came from a Half Price Books trash pile. Umm... yeah.

I've been temped to get a turntable for awhile now. I still have some records left from my youth. I even have the Depeche Mode Get the Balance Right EP on vinyl

How totally weird!!! Just last night I was reminising (sp?) about having a turntable. I could swear I could smell that smoky smell when I turned on the player and then hear the noise of the automatic arm clicking to let down a record. I remembered all the little details of the player itself, which I hadn't thought of in an extremely long time. How strange to find this post now.

I think it means you should run out & get yourself a record player!

We have about 200 records and bought them all at Goodwill. It's easy enough to find cheap vinyl.

We just hooked up our vinyl again last week. I agree! Vinyl rocks! I love old blues and jazz... it sounds sooooooo much better on the turntable. We just quadrupled our music collection by bringing it upstairs. The best part is the kids having acess to all of the old classics... Beatles, rolling stones, led zepplon, grateful dead... raffi! cheech and chong(well not for them!) lol vinyl is so fun!

I was reading an article recently where someone was talking about how great vinyl is because you have to be engaged with the music. You have to physically be there to get up and turn the record over. So you sit and really listen, more often than with a CD or mp3 I guess.

I do miss my records, we have several turntables in DH's studio, but that's not really where I like to hang out. So I'm usually just listening to stuff on the 'puter.

Good times, good times.....

I used to love listening to records (I was born in the mid-eighties, but I was in one of "those" familes - the ones who didn't get cd players until the late 90's). I remember the first summer I stayed home by myself - I was 13 - everyday after my parents left I would start listening to the records they had "hidden" from me (just pushed to the back of the shelf. Stuff like Zepplin, AC/DC, KISS, etc. I would listen to that all day and dance around the house. About 3 years ago I started searching thrift stores and so far I've found around 200 albums that I LOVE, plus my parents gave me all of their old ones. It's very enjoyable to listen to, and there's just something about it - you feel more connected to the songs and artists. I love it!

I never liked vinyl all that much. I always preferred tapes because then I could dance around or jump on my bed to the music and not risk ruining my records in the process!! Of course, I didn't like how you couldnt' start at just your favorite song, and rewinding was a PITA- I would have loved CDs as a child/teenager.

I don't mean this in ANY offensive way but.... when I got into music (I'm 32) it was already cassette tapes.... can I ask-- as I said, with no offense, how old everyone is?

I'm 21. I grew up with cassettes as well, but my parents had an amazing record collection and a great stereo system, and we listened to them all the time. Don't get me wrong, I love my ipod and all the songs I've downloaded, but I also really love a lot of music from the 60's & 70's and I love listening the albums I have. I also love searching through flea markets and thrift stores for records; I've found sooooo many amazing albums, none of which were over $3. At the thrift store closest to my house all records are $1, which is such a great buy (esp. considering most of the one's I've bought were in excellent conditin)!

I was born when JFK was president.

My first vinyl ... can't remember. I remember having musical story records. My brothers had a set of 78s of ??the Lone Ranger stories, I think it was. Something "cowboy." I had a record of stories about a dog named "Shnapsie." And at some point had a record of "Cinderella." And then got a Beatles album ... and was way too young to appreciate it. So it didn't last too long. Shame ... would have been nice to have that one still. Sigh.

i still play vinyl records and do think fandom was changed when cds were introduced,i mean you can't HUG a cd, you can't see the cover art properly on a cd, you can't sling it under your arm to show everyone passing by your taste in music, boo hoo i'm old...
