Has anyone taken Clomid while breastfeeding a toddler?

Any thoughts on it? My daughter is coming up on two and still nurses fairly often. I'm not committed to CLW but I don't feel she's ready to be done just yet. I'm contemplating taking Clomid in a few months but not sure if I'm comfortable with it. I ovulate without the Clomid and have since DD was 3 months old or so, but even with properly timed intercourse (sounds so sexy, huh? ) I haven't gotten pregnant yet. I have PCOS, and I think my egg quality and luteal phase might not be up to par without Clo.

Appreciate any advice or thoughts, positive or negative.

No answers here, but I wanted to subscribe to your thread because I would like to know what info is out there. I am on my first round of Clomid and am also still nursing my 4 y.o. DD. She doesn't nurse much anymore but I am still concerned about it. I also will be adding Estradiol and Prochieve later this month - would love any thoughts/info on that also.

I'm nursing my 2 year old and taking Clomid right now. Both my OB and his pediatrician said to continue nursing him and that the medicine would not harm him.

I think I'd be pretty comfortable with that. The RE I saw was pretty against even discussing fertility treatments with anyone still nursing. My dd was already weaned when we went though.

The only reason I have researced and heard is that it can reduce your milk supply...other than that, I have heard it is safe!

I did when we were TTC #2 (that's how I got pregnant with #1 also, after 6 rounds). It didn't work, didn't make me ovulate. I also have PCOS. I ended up going onto Follistim, did one round (still nursing) and got pregnant that first try. My RE agreed to try the Follistim once and if I didn't get pregnant, I'd have to wean to do more. Luckily it didn't come to that.

Good luck!

This gives me hope. I conceived DD using Clomid. I also have PCOS. I'm on the waiting list for the fertility clinic, and it may be January -February when I get in.

Here's hoping things work out well.

Do you take Met, Ammaarah?

Thanks, everyone, for your replies! I am still undecided but feel comforted that others have taken Clo while nursing and the babies didn't turn glowing green or anything.

I do take Met and I ovulate every 35-45 days or so, which is regular for someone with PCOS, right? It's just not enough for me, at least it hasn't been historically. I got pregnant on one round of Clomid so I'm itching to try it again even though it made me a pimply, hot beastress who ate everything in site. I'll probably look like Godzilla if I have to use any stronger fertility meds.

LOL! Yeah, I thought I got off with no side effects since I didn't feel anything after the first round. This was my 2nd month of Clomid and oh yeah, beastress is a great word!

I also heard the only downside of taking Clomid while nursing was the decreased milk supply. I was really worried, but after my OB and ped both said to continue nursing I felt better. It was just really hard considering for 2 years I have taken MAYBE a handful of Tylenol when I got a really bad headache. Oh and a few pain meds during my miscarriage. But I stayed relatively drug-free while nursing him, so it was real hard to pop those pills.

Maybe I should start a new tribe for beastresses and see who shows up!

Good luck, I hope this is your cycle and that all goes well with the Clomid. I remember sitting on my exercise ball and just sweating and sweating and sweating! I was hoping to escape that this time around!

Thank you! I hope if you decide to take it again it works quickly for you! I'm waiting to hear back from my doc's office, I had a beta and progesterone level check today. I think I might have gotten a very faint positive this morning, but after having a really convincing evap last month I'm not celebrating till I find out if there is actually hCG running through my blood!

I would love to not have to take Clomid a third time. If it has gotten me pregnant I am grateful, but the visual disturbances and beastress-ness (I love your word!) were not very fun!
