September Decluttering Challenge! - Page 2

Purged 2/4 filing cabinet drawers this morning of about half their contents! Woohoo!
Well I don't think I'm going to accomplish much today. Looks like I'm going to have to go to MILs this afternoon. I'm going to try to get a few things done before I go though. We're hauling off all the stuff I bagged yesterday though so at least that is something.

I was able to get rid of all outdated stuff from my bathroom cabinets in Aug. and last night I got rid of all the outdated stuff from my kitchen cabinet. I didn't count it all, but I am guessing around 15 things. That is alot for me. I intend to go through all the paperwork in the office. I should be able to get at least 200 pieces.

My goal this month is to clear out my bedroom. It's like a tornado of clothes, books, and junk in there. I want to get rid of at least 100 items and have the whole room decent by the end of the month.

Okay, today didn't get off to such a great start. But I DID sit down at the filing cabinet for a few minutes and look at it apprehensively.

That's a start, right?
Mama, I've been doing just that for months and yeah, it is a start

my totals for today are

10 papers trashed
6 objects put away
20 papers filed mostly to temporary filing (2 things went to the permanent files)

36 total! yay!

i'm still thinking about a number goal but i'm thinking about really challenging myself and going for 1000.....with paper it adds up fast, i just hope i can stay motivated:

  • Under bathroom sink
  • Closet in master bedroom- DONE!
  • Storage shed
  • Kitchen- all of it
  • Under vanity in master bedroom- DONE!

Today I met my declutter challenge goal in just 2 areas. We were ruthless and got rid of lots and lots of things. I stopped counting but we took around 130 things to the thrift store and threw away at least 100 more. w00t! My master closet is sooo tidy and the space under the master vanity is bare.
The very best part is that the thrift stuff was taken to the thrift store donation center and the trash to the dumpster. Usually thrift stuff just sits by the door.

Tomorrow we'll be doing the living room and the rest of the master bedroom. So exciting to see this stuff finally go.

Wow you all are doing great, I haven't started yet.

Okay I got boxed and bagged up more stuff yesterday before I was done. Mostly some toys and lots of old household things DH had when we got together. 364 more items. I just went threw a huge bag of clothes brought to us for DS when he's older. 46 more things off to sis-in-law tomorrow.

Total to date: 960 items

Who knew you could possibly have this much crap in your house? No wonder why it never seems to stay clean. To think I still haven't even touched half our rooms. Once again I'm going to up my totals. I'm not stopping after 40 more items. No way. I'm on a roll now. New goal: 2000 items. Let's see how close I can come to that.

I'm going a little smaller this month, as it's a busy one for me. We'll be going and painting our new place this week and hopefully getting moved in, and then I'm going to have to work like a madwoman to get everything put away and organized in time for the little man's birthday party! I already know that I'm going to end up with way more stuff as my mom has gone a bit overboard in buying things for little man, but he is her first grandchild so I forgive her....somewhat.

So I'm only setting my goal at 200 this month.

an 13'x8' dumpster filled from the garage
I read that wrong and thought it said "filled from the GARBAGE"

I am in for the challenge. We are overall in good shape, but there is always room for improvement.

I'm in for 150. I need to go thru the boys clothes.

Well I just cleaned up, decluttered and rearranged the living room. I got rid of 23 CDs, 6 DVDs, 36 plastic, mostly vintage Tupperware, plates and cups, and some baby stuff. The baby stuff will be going to good friends who are TTC. The rest is off to the thrift store.

I don't think I've cleaned so hard since before the baby was born. We are playing Guitar Hero 2 on breaks, so it isn't too bad.

New goal 500 items!

Well ladies today is going to be a lazy day for me. DH is still home until tomorrow and we're going to IL's today. I'm hauling off 2 boxes and one bag of stuff I boxed up yesterday out there though. So good! Hopefully tomorrow I can rampage this house again. You wouldn't believe the massive amount of crap in this house. Its going to take all month to clean it out!

4. My daughters' clothes
5. Garage
6. Storage Garage Outside
7. Closet in the Guest Bedroom
8. My desk

Okay, I'm going to have to allocate more than three days to the filing cabinet. It is an onerous job.

I'm almost done though! I hope it will be pink tomorrow.

I'm in, I'm in!

In the end I didn't quite meet the August challenge (although I stopped counting, so I may have...) but I'm setting myself some fresh goals for September:

1. Recycle/shred at least 5 years' worth of old bills and related information;
2. Go through all baby stuff, set aside what's nice for my sister who may be TTC soon, and sell/donate the rest...
3. Sell or donate at least 100 items;
4. Go through wardrobe and donate ill-fitting items.

Thanks for the inspiration, mamas.

Ithink I can keep it up, i'm going to go for 2000. Its a big goal but I think I can do it....i feel like if i can get my papers in order, i can get my finances in order. And my life.

I didn't make my goal last month, so here's hoping this month will be better and I won't lose steam. I'm going to shoot for 250, as I think I could have made it last month without the hospital visit.

I'm not good at counting, but here are my Sept goals:

Work on purging the garage
Work on purging the shed
Start tidying up the yard so it won't be so hard in the spring
Start going to the swap-shop again, aim for weekly trips (to drop stuff off - not to pick stuff up!!)

But before I do all that, I need to get our living spaces tidied up - we've been hopping around on vacation for about a month (some short trips, one long trip) and the house needs a very thorough raking. I have to get that done before I can start the fun stuff.

21/100!!!

And 8 square foot of clean bedroom!!!!! The door both opens, closes and doesn't hit anything in either direction, and you can stand on carpet once inside!!!!!

OK, that may not be a major achievement to normal people, but it's a big deal in this house.
