Favorite current/recent book?

I know there are a lot of favorite threads so I apologize in advance for another one

But, if you wouldn't mind, I'm just getting back into reading and would love some suggestions. My kids are finally at the age where I'm able to have some time to myself! Yay!!! So, I've started reading again. I just finished Lovely Bones and Good in Bed. Next on my list is Little Earthquakes. I also have Eat, Pray, Love and The Time Travelers Wife on my wish list at the Library.

So anyway, I'm wondering if you would give me some suggests for current or recent must read books?

TIA!

Our book club just finished reading Sabbath
and now we're reading The Not So Big Life by Sarah Susanka

I loved The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Also I just finished reading A Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Her writing style was a bit curious to me but once I was used to it, I LOVED the story and found it to be a very thought provoking topic, scary as h*ll too.

But, you could go for my old stand by favorite book Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver.

I just finished reading Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. What an amazing book. It wasn't your typical chick-lit at all. The characters, the dialog, the situations were all realistic. It's a complicated, charming, and absorbing tale of a young NYC attorney who after a few too many drinks at her birthday party sleeps with her best friend's fiancee who just happenst to be her good friend from law school.

Oh, yes, I've heard the Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns are very good.

Definitely The Echo Maker, by Richard Powers. A young man in a slacker dead-end job suffers a traumatic brain injury and is left believing that his sister (and his beloved dog) have been replaced by imposters. Sandhill cranes, the nature of identity, and a celebrity neuroscientist are involved. It's just so compelling!

Less recent but still good: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Saturday (and if you like that, you need to read Atonement).

I stayed up until 1am this morning finishing this book. I LOVED IT!!! It was so utterly realistic. She put words to the emotions anyone who is in or has been in a struggling romance feels. I loved her writing!

But, I wanted more! I was sad when it ended. My only complaint is that it didn't feel complete. I hope she writes a sequel.

YES! I just googled and there is a sequel called Something Blue. I'm headed to the library today

Amcal - I'm getting Something Blue as well. I can't wait to read it. I like Something Borrowed so much I emailed the author. I've only done that once before.

That's exactly how I felt! I wanted to call her and tell her how much I loved the book I can't wait until my library transfers Something Blue over from another branch.

I loved "Loving Frank" by Nancy Horan. It's told from the perspective of the married woman, Mamah Cheney, who ran off with Frank Lloyd WRight way back when. It was wonderful, touching, engaging, thought provoking.

LOVED IT>
