When I moved to NL, I learned to make several things from scratch that I used to buy. Cake frosting is one of them (they don't do that here). Homemade tastes a little different, and I have to say knowing exactly what's in it dimmed my desire for it
. It's essentially a pack of butter with lots of powdered sugar and a little milk. And food coloring, of course. Lately I've preferred to make a cream cheese variant, replacing the butter with cream cheese.
