From Heather's Original Thread for AC:
In accordance with the UA, please adhere to the following rules: Please do not post links to your Content Producer page or your articles, in your posts or signature. Please do not spam users in private with these links unless they have asked. If someone asks you for a link, send it to them in a private message. Swap links only in private and when solicited.

You may tell us when you have a new article posted and what it is about, but again, do not link it. There is no need to say "See my CP page for it" or "PM me for a link" and so on to self-promote, because we all know that we can check your CP page or PM you. Keep self-promotion to a minimum. All we need to know is that you wrote something new and what it's about, and if people want to, they will take the initiative to find the peice and read it. Telling us the exact name of the piece is not recommended, because that's about the same as posting the link.

I am going to create a list of the MDC mamas and their AC links. If you wish to be added to it, please PM me with a link to your Content Producer Page. If you would like an updated copy of the list (which isn't available just yet, lol) just ask. I will try to send out copies to a few people so that I'm not the only one who knows.

Please do not post here if you advertise to your articles in your signature (unless you've purchased an advertising package).

Mods, I hope this is ok. If you want me to amend these rules please let me know. (Although none of us benefit enough from the bonus to afford, in six months, to pay for an MDC advertising package much less profit after doing so.)

Yay! A new thread! Hopefully I can keep up!

Heather--I saw you over at the featured article about babies...sigh!
Oh, and yay for articles! I have had the three accepted from before, then two accepted yesterday (in the $4 range). Not published yet. I still have 3 in my queue, but imagine they won't get looked at until after Tuesday with the holiday weekend. I am hoping to get at least an article a day done now that I know what I am doing (I think!).

I HAVE AN ARTICLE PUBLISHED!!!

OMG *faints*

I read it and rated it! Yay!

No, not sure, never done that before.

That article about fear of babies...I understand it was meant to be taken with a grain of salt and from another point of view I'm sure it's funny, but I really just didn't like it. The writer just came off as, well, ignorant. It was well-written and an interesting article, though. Some of the comments left were just unnecessary and rude. I think it's hypocritical to talk about how nasty children are and call them "monsters," which is far more rude than anything a baby does. Babies don't chose to be that way; they can't help it. But people who bash children like that DO have a choice, and they CHOSE to be just as nasty as the "critters" they're insulting. I don't know why it's acceptable for people to do that. If anyone were to talk bad about another group of folks like 30-somethings, elderly people, or people of a certain race or religion, it would be totally unacceptable. But it's okay to stereotype kids and say awful things about them? I guess it's because kids can't really do anything about it. I just think that's sad. It's one thing to not have or like kids but there's no need to talk like they are evil little terrors.

Heather - I agree with you about that article. I actually had the impresson that the writer was trying to be as controversial as possible to stir the pot. I honestly didn't find her stance very believable.

Anyone have any September writing goals? My goal is to reach 70 articles at AC. I need to write 18 more. I've got 2 in my queue, so hopefully those will get published.

One of the articles in my queue at AC is a non-exclusive. I think I'm also going to post it at Constant Content for usage rights only. Depending on how that goes, I may make a habit of that. It'll be a good way to build my library at CC without any extra work.

I wrote a quick article this morning. It took a little less than an hour from the time I started writing to the time when I finished submitting it.

Erika - Have you pm'd me your link yet? If so, just tell me who you are at AC. I've got so many people in my favorites now, I have no idea who is who - lol. If you haven't, then please pm me. thanks!

See now, I found her stance sort of believable because my husband was that way. He really and truly wanted nothing to do with kids until we had our own. Not that he didn't like them, but he didn't want to hold them and get all cuddly with them...kwim? Of course, he alwasy wanted his own, so maybe that's where the difference lies! I did take her article sort of "in jest"...

As for certain responses...there was one in particular that really got my skin crawling, and I tried to respond to her in a round about way. I'm new to posting comments, so I wasn't sure how "into it" people would get! Live and learn!

My goal was going to be 3 articles a week, but now I have decided to up my goal to 5 a week. I think that's pretty realistic for me, as I am not writing research intensive articles. I have had 3 published, 2 processing, and 3 still in my queue, and I think that's pretty good for just starting out! I have two I want to submit tonight. In the long term I am hopeful to bring in $100 a month. We'll see how it works out!

If I may play along, I'm hoping to write my first articles this month for AC. Not looking for high volume since I'm not interested in more taxes to pay on top of FT salary at the moment. Just want to get my feet wet and see what is possible.

I have three articles drafted. Just tweaking and mulling and lurking on the AC messageboards and here, trying to learn, looking at topics etc... I'll be on vacation toward the end of Sept and plan to sub then.

Anyone who wants to pm me with their AC links is welcome to do so. I'm happy to give people page views and I'm looking for things to read as part of my learning curve.

Oh, and this is my first foray into NF type writing. But I've sold some short fiction and essays here and there. Came close with a novel at Tor, but no dice--it doesn't help when the editor quits their job.

Violet -- please pm me your AC link!

I think I wanna try to get 20 published. (Maybe not that many but I DO need a goal!)

My first one is published and I've got two others that I'm waiting to hear about!

My goal for September is to get over my irritation about the lowball offer and write some more stuff by the 8th, and keep writing. I just got so mad that I haven't even thought about writing since. Bad bad bad, I know.

I refuse to even read that article about paedophobia, because I have a feeling I'll just get annoyed. I make a point not to read things on there that are just going to piss me off, unless it's something about breastfeeding or something that I may be able to give some good information in the comments section. If it's just something clearly written to provoke, I avoid it, because I'm not giving somebody pageviews for being argumentative.

Did anyone have any trouble registering at AC? I tried to sign up a few days ago and am still waiting on my confirmation e-mail. Does it normally take this long or am I being impatient?

queenbean: I am so sorry about the lowball offer. It really must be frustrating, esp. if it's something you put a lot of work into, and it sounds like you did.

oceanwinds: I think my confirmation email was immediate, but I can't remember. Is it possible that you used the wrong email address (a typo)? I have done that before...

Thanks. It's not so much that I worked hard on it, although that is a part of it -- it's mostly that the site has NOTHING on the subject, and it's such an important topic that people need to be made aware of.

As far as the confirmation email, mine was immediate as well. Did you check your spam folder? If it's not there, try to re-register and see if that works. If you still can't get it, email admin@associatedcontent.com and tell them what's going on. They're not good at replying to emails, but they are usually good about fixing the problem.

How long does it take after them to send your money to paypal after?

Hey all,
The monthly thread is here, awesome.

Anyone new please send a link to your Content Page so I can subscribe to you. wfuteach I just subbed to you. I plan on getting back to writing for AC soon, until then I am enjoying reading you all's articles. I am actually multitasking so I am a little distracted at the moment but I will try and post in this thread more so then I was with the other. It feels good being back already.

Thanks for subbing Neth!

Speaking of subbing, whats the difference between that and adding someone as a favorite? I've just been adding as favorites, should I be subbing instead?

I am hopeful that the two articles I have processing get published today or tomorrow. I want to start sending some to family and friends as appropriate, and have been hesitant until now since my articles were all about kids. My next two are different, and I think now I'll feel more comfortable sharing the page with people who really know me. I don't know why I've been so nervous to do that...
I believe the difference is that when you sub to someone you get an email when they have something new published. I think, do you get emails stating that your favorites get published? If not then I think that is the only difference.

Any idea on the money thing?
