Heather -congrats! Very anxious to hear about your UC.

To anyone new- please PM your link and I will sub to you (or if there is anyone else out there that I haven't subbed to yet, PM me).

The cell phone comment brought something to mind- does anyone try and record their pieces? I've been walking about 2-3 miles a day and get some good articles in my head then, but when I come home phhhhpppt they are gone. I was thinking of trying to record them somehow as I walk with my girls.

The other question I have is in regards to articles that may go against "popular opinion." I am new to AC and was curious to learn if certain topics could greatly detract from your PV. I am actually working on an article that discusses the Biblical perspective of circ. So for those of you who have published circ. articles or hot topics, what sort of backlash should I be prepared for?

As far as goals, currently I am more interested in enjoying the craft of writing than any sort of quantatative measurement, but I must admit it's been nice getting offers. My lowest offer was my second one which wasn't bad. I have 3 in my queue that should be approved soon.

I think your bible perspective on circ. is a good one! don't worry about the backlash as your PV's will likely go way up by at least a few thousand if it ends up being showcased! and you can always delete comments from any really mean people!

That's good to know. I am sort of excited about this piece, but I am taking my time with it.

Stupid question - I've read about people being "showcased." Does AC notify you if they do that? Or is it a matter of just lurking on the main category pages?

You just have to catch it at the right time, or hope someone comments and lets you know. Often, if something is showcased your comments will skyrocket, so you'll know when you wake up to 50 comments on an article.

Anyone having any trouble at AC today? My processing submissions from yesterday still haven't published. I haven't noticed much changing in showcases, either. But, I did get a piece accepted, so that's good.

I agree, that sounds like a fascinating article! I wouldn't worry about backlash. I think, if anything, it could be beneficial to write something a little controversial.

I keep trying to think of controversial topics that I am comfortable enough writing about and I draw a blank! LOL I did write one controversial article about formula feeding several months ago. It got a lot of comments, mostly supportive, though it did draw some ire. But, I was so personally invested in the article and spent so much time on it that it was exhausting. I guess I don't do controversy well in that sense. But it's my favorite article that I've written to date. I got no backlash from it though.

Rainbow - You are chatty! LOL

no they don't notify you. I always can tell because I'll start getting alot of comments on the particular article being showcased. it doesn't happen right away either after submitting so it's usually an older article that isn't getting alot of comments anymore.

You just had one published about sahms and sad.

I've had two offers today. I did notice that the showcases don't seem to be changing. Enough with the Halo article - lol.

It must have just gone up as I wrote that post! LOL

My op/ed parenting piece is the one I am anxiously awaiting. Promise me you'll all still read my stuff even if you totally disagree (it's not anti-natural parenting or anything like that...)

An article I wrote in June about the new Ken Burns WW2 documentary (which premiered tonight) is the showcase article on AC's home page right this very minute!

*excited*
Congrats, I be to search for it next time I am on AC.

I've written a lot of circumcision articles, and I get mostly positive comments. Sometimes I get negative comments, either criticizing the information, spewing misinformation, saying it's a personal parental decision, or even saying all parents should circ. Sometimes it's rude or nasty but not usually. Sometimes there's a good discussion or debate. But the little black X is quite handy for inappropriate comments. I get a LOT of PVs on my circumcision articles compared to others. It is a good topic especially if you approach it from unique angles.
