Hey mamas!! Not sure if this is the right spot, but not sure where else to go. After charting for 3 months (6m TTC) its time that I go see my OB. I have discovered that I have 8-9 day LP. Are there others out there that have/had this issue? If so, what have you done to fix this issue? I have heard HORROR stories about clomid and would prefer not to do that so I am seeking alternatives. This month I tried Vitex, only to ovulate on CD16 instead of CD18, but my LP was still only 9 days! Also, most of my temps are below 97 degrees so there could be an underlying thyroid issue. Feeling frustrated and discouraged so any input would be great!

I feel your pain, women! I used Clomid the first time around and it really wasn't the horror story some experience, for me at least. I only took 50 mg and was pregnant on the first cycle. I did have some s/e - hot flashes, a little emotional, and stress eating - but it was survivable. Not trying to convince anyone to take Clomid, but just putting that out there.
I guess Vitex sometimes takes months or even years to take full effect. I am starting on it as soon as it arrives (ordered it online.) I guess many women start seeing changes after three months or so. I will probably use Clomid again if the Vitex doesn't work. I wonder if progesterone supplementation in the LP would help? I am fairly clueless about this stuff but my LP is short so I should really do more research.

My OB offered me Clomid or progesterone supplements...she said both do the same thing just go about solving the problem differently.
Also, several people recommended taking B6. I was told to google B6 and TTC and found a lot of info on dosages and stuff.
I ended up taking B6 and then going on Clomid. Good luck to you!

Hi, just wanted to pop in and say that I had a 8-9 luteal phase and vitex did nothing for me (in fact shortened it!).
The cycle I got pregnant I was seeing a constitutional homeopath, and also, DTD a *ton*. I later heard of another MDC mama with a short LP who felt the only thing she had done differently when she conceived was lots of DTD around O time.
Oh and also, after I got my BFP I used a hot water bottle on my abdomen every night as per The Infertility Cure.
I don't know if any of this had anything to do with it, but I just wanted to share.

If your temps are below 97, I'd really suspect hypothyroidism. I'd recommend getting that checked because it can not only impact ability to conceive but it can increase the risk of miscarriage (if untreated).
Also, I'd look into supplementing with progesterone during the 2nd half of your cycle (3 days post ovulation). It makes sense that clomid does increase progesterone, but I wonder if it does over the long run. Meaning, if you conceive because clomid boosts progesterone levels does the effect last long enough for your body to overcome low progesterone levels during early pregnancy?
As for clomid - I'm finishing my 3rd cycle using it. And while never in a million years would I have expected I'd be using it, I feel pretty lucky that it's gone smoothly. Only side effect has been hot flashes (worse in the 1st half of my cycle but not horrible), and this 3rd time a headache that went on for over 24 hours, but went away when I took some Alleve.
Good luck!
