Good books that are NOT part of a series

I really enjoyed the HP books, and when they were done, I asked our children's librarian what I should read next. He suggested a bunch of series books, and he also suggested a lone book called Fly By Night by Frances Hardinge. I LOVED it! On my own I found The Book of Story Beginnings, and I am really digging that, too.

I was wondering whether people can suggest some other good kids/YA fantasy/adventure/magic-type books that are just good stand-alone books, NOT part of a series. I don't want to read any more series for a while.

TIA!

These are not exactly fantasy, but I like books by Eva Ibbotsen - more mystery/adventure and stand alone. The star of Kazzan and Journey to the River Sea are two of my favorites by her. Also, The Beasts of Clawstone Castle.

There's a stand-alone novella by Diana Wynne Jones called "Everard's Ride". I think it's in one of her short-story collections right now, though. Can't remember the title off the top of my head but it has a huge toad on it (the recent printing of it anyway).

Oh, there are tons!

Tom's Midnight Garden, Phillippa Pearce
The Gammage Cup, Carol Kendall (there's a sequel, but Gammage is really a stand-alone book)
The Ghosts of Opalina, Peggy Bacon
No Flying in the House, Betty Brock
Anything by Edward Eager or E. Nesbit
The Changeling, Zilpha Keatley Snyder (not really a fantasy, but definitely magical)
Black and Blue Magic, Zilpha Keatley Snyder
The Never-Ending Story, Michael Ende
Coraline, Neil Gaiman (VERY creepy book)
The King in the Window, Adam Gopnik
The Thief Lord, Cornelia Funke
The Court of Stone Children, Eleanor Cameron
The Giant Under the Snow, John Gordon
Elidor, Alan Garner
Sorcery and Cecelia -- or, the Enchanted Chocolate Pot, Patricia Wrede and I forgot who the coauthor is (there is a sequel, but this stands alone)
Lots of Lloyd Alexander are stand-alone novels -- the Iron Ring, the Arkadians, the Golden Dream of Carlo Chuchio
The Moor Child, Eloise Jarvis McGraw
The Little White Horse, Elizabeth Goudge
the thirteen Clocks, James Thurber (HIGHLY recommended!)
The Last Unicorn, Peter S. Beagle
Tamsin, Peter S. Beagle
The Ordinary Princess, M.M. Kaye
The Thief, Megan Whelan Turner
