Postpartum Cloth?

Hi there!

I'm visiting from the November DDC and am trying to gather my moon cloth for post-partum. I figure the lovely post-partum bleeding isn't too distant a memory for you all just yet! Did anyone use cloth for the post-partum weeks? What sizes/how many did you have on hand?

Thanks in advance!!!

I did and am using just cloth. I LOVE LOVE my Essence of Eve 9" for everyday 'spotty' type coverage. I've used these since about day 3. Changing more often initially. I love my 12" for night and earlier on. I also have some Enchanted Nursery and Hidden Pearl Creations ones that I like too. I have 10 in the about 9" size of E of E and then two 12". I wash every other day or so early on and then every 3 or 4 or more days now that I'm just spotting occasionally and I can go all day sometimes without anything on a pad.

Thanks Holly! How far out from the birth are you now?

Used Luna Pads here and was very comfortable. After DS' birth 2 years ago, I used disposable pads for the 5 weeks I bled and was very uncomfortable, hence the switch to cloth.

I just used what I had on hand, changing more often in the early days than if I had ordered the heavier/more absorbant post-part pads they make. I have 4 organic cotton pads and maybe 10 of the liners.

After teh first two weeks, I was just spotting and switched to a homemade setup. I sewed ric-rac into underware to hold just a cloth liner in place. Less bulk, less wash to do. Cheaper, too, than the $19 for the similarly designed underware that LunaPads sells.

Ooops! That might help, huh? I am 3 weeks postpartum.

3 weeks pp here too, and I am now just using a minipad type cloth pad, i think mine are 13"(but I am a plus sized mama). I usually can just use oneor two a day not because I am barely spotting(like just enought where there is a tiny smear when I wipe but nothing on the pad). For immediately pp I had 6 really big pads(glad I had them), i think they are 18 inches, 6 15 inchers and 12 13 inchers. I needed all of these the first few days, but not so many after that...I washed every day to every other day.
I will probably not ever need the really big ones again, though they might be good security for night time when my periods come back. I also used the at the end of my pregnancy for leaking urine. lol

got mine from:
www.piggyprefolds.com (and i swear it is a coincedence that they are called mamamoo pads, she stalks on the same congo as me now, but i didn't have any affiliation with her when I ordered mine. lol
a pic brfore the snaps were put on:

I'm 6 days and not entirely using cloth, but love love love my postpartum pads from Happy Heiny's. They are built like a pocket diaper, but without the removeable part. But they are so soft on top (fleece) and very abosobant and my favourite part is that they have a pul backing, so I don't bleed through!

i normally use a cup so i didn't go buy a pile of mamacloth that i would only need for a few weeks. instead i used some chopped up scrap fabric, the 4 mamapads that i keep around for infections and the like, and the odd sposie. now i'm done with all that and i have most of a bag of sposies that i have no idea what to do with - who would i give them to? i don't think i can freecycle an open bag of pads...

I have bamboo velour Amaz Padz and they are to die for! I'd recommend the deluxe version (they are thicker in the center). I have some of the overnight/pp size and really didn't find that I needed the extra length.

I have 12 of the deluxe and 9 overnight and it is plenty. Right now I only use about 4 a day. I'm 11 days pp.

I didn't have access to the fabrics I needed to make them or shipping over here. So I used my son's "emergency" disposable diaper stash and lined them with my preemie prefolds. I figured that was better than totally disposable pads for days. When the bleeding was down to just a little bit, I could just fold a preemie prefold into my underwear.

We're almost three weeks out and right now I'm just using my GladRags to catch the spotty stuff. Back when I was bleeding heavily I was using post-partum pads from NobleBunz. They are wonderful! She doesn't show them on her site but if you ask I bet she'll make them for you. She's local so I got mine right from the source. Four of mine are flannel and the other two are velour. The velour ones feel WONDERFUL on stitches!
