Anyone want be in a quilters idea & fabric exchange?

I work in a quilt shop with women who are amazing quilters but a little more conventional than me in their quilting styles. So I thought this might be a great place to share ideas with woman a little more open minded in their sewing.

Would anyone be interested in doing project idea exchanges, fat 1/4 exchanges, pattern exchanges, or just chat about what we're all working on?

I can start,

I've got 4 unfinished tops right now. One that only needs a little applique in the border and an autograph quilt I'm making for my mom while she goes through her radiation treatments for breast cancer. I also have been making the kids a ton of pants and shorts out of quilting fabrics they like.

Hope to hear from anyone interested, quilters or not,
Anna

i might have interest -- depending on what the requirements are : )

i'm always game to talking quilts!!! LOLLL

I would be open to an exchange although I truly have a ton of fabric I am trying to "use up" so I can buy more of course

As far as talkin' quilts SURE!!!

I have two quilts I need to finish handquilting. One is queen sized and made in Civil War reproduction fabrics, the other is a lap quilt that is in shades of deep reds and greens for my living room.

I have a top done (or do I have one more border : ??) of a quilt that I made for my son with just fabrics I haven't used before.

Quilting is fun but since I had my son it has been on the backburner.

Yes! What a great idea, Anna

I would love to exchange just about anything...quilt blocks, fat quarters, etc.

Would anyone be interested in a hand dyed fat quarter exchange? Those are fun...try out a technique or neat dye color and then trade around.

Right now I'm working on a few things...an Asian quilt (which I just ripped out all the quilting, it didn't turn out like I wanted <sigh> back to square one.) a batik quilt is in the works, I'll be doing some batik dying soon, two Hello Kitty quilts with fabric from Japan (these are going to be so neat! They are for my dd and a friend of ours), I'm also working on an appliqued wall hanging which I will donate to MDC auctions if it looks perfect.

I love Asian prints and recently purchased several vintage kimono silk panels from ebay...I can't wait to encorporate them into quilts. Batiks are another passion of mine and I've recently been enjoying applique. I also have fun dying my own fabrics to use in quilting.

I could go on for hours

Wendy, I drool over the batiks everytime I go to a quilt store!! Someday I would love to do a quilt in all batik fabrics!!

The Asian fabric quilts sound really neat, I am the type that tends to be very stuck in the same old, same old style and it's hard for me to break out of it. All my quilts are pretty much reds and greens

I'm a quilting FREAK! However

I can't be involved in anything that required commitment right now. When ds was little I could do it, but now he's just too active (2yo)

I'm always up for quilting talk though....

ANd I'm in LOVE with 30's repro fabrics right now...

I figured we could make this whatever we wanted.

I totally understand the toddler interuption thing with a 3 yo and a 2 month old I have to steal my sewing time when Grandmas around.

As for a block, fabric, pattern exchange what if we started with a fabric swap. It seems like a lot of us are into Asian fabrics (I have to know how you got the Hello Kitty fabric WLW!) I don't think everyone should have to participate if they don't want to. If people are interested I could get a list of addresses and give each person 1 name to send a 1/4 or 1/2 yard to what ever sounds good. If it goes over well maybe we could try blocks next.

Just let me know.

The quilt I'm working on for my mom has random sized strip piecing with Asian fabrics to surround the signatures.

A co worker just dropped me off a package with 5 yards worth of Jennifer Sanpons "Robomatic" line because my Birthdays tommorow. Woo Hoo!!!

things i want to do....

there's a certain style of quilt that i want for me - and i hate admit its a very old boring traditional kind of thing

i think they are 30's fabrics, but when i look at the stuff in the store i hate it. i hate the fabrics that have like those "campbell soup" kids/kewpie kids on them. it when you have the light-medium colors with a lot of white fabric around. i prefer the fabrics that from three yards away are only subtley patterned or dont look patterned at all.

there's a book that has a beautiful one on front, i think its something like cookies & quilts or the such.

i also want to make a blue and yellow quilt (maybe surrounded by white??) hmmm combine the two thoughts

and i just saw one that i love that was a log cabin quilt. the light was all creams/offwhites and the dark was what i call "country colors" blue, red (not fire engine), green. they were the shades i alwasy see used for country stuff.

i HAVE HAVE HAVE to have a flannel quilt!!!! i sleep on flannel sheets all year round (now if i can find enough flannels for the blue/red/green i can combine those ideas too!!)

i want to make a pieced fleece blanket for my daughter. i cant figure out some of the details (what kidn of thread to use etc.) so it sits on hold for now

oh yeah! replique quilts - where you replicate a picture. i have a photo of my dad's (its a photo my dad took, not of him) that i has to be made into a quilt and i pray i can come close to doing it any justice.

(duh!!! irish chain quilt! that's on the list too... )

i'm definitely game for doing any sort of exchange (ie fat quarters/fabric) i have fabric!! it doesnt require any extra effort LOLLL (whether anyone else wants it is a whole other matter...)

call me boring, but I love the Yellow brick road pattern. It's simple and easy and looks a little hodgepog.

I don't like the 30s fabric with kewpies either. But I do love the flowery ones.

Have you seen the fabrics from schoolhouse quilts? I love those.

Pumpkin seed- did you know there is a quilt shop named after you in San Rafael CA?

I love the 30's repro's with the tiny prints, flowers, critters or geometric but totally agree with the Campbell's kids, yuck. I cut myself a swatch of the kewpie print because it had a hen and chicks on but no kewpies.

Talk about torture I made a colorwash irish chain for my grandmas 88th birthday this last year it was in navy and butter cream with an off white background, because of the millions of 1 1/2 "squares in colors that she would like it took me 8 months to finish and I had a friend machine quilt it so I wouldn't have to look at it any more. I do want to make another in my color ways at some point.

Gotta go we got company,
Anna

Kate here!!

I am new to all of this ,but I guess I will get the hang of it??
I am a grandmother Quilter, and have made Quilts for all 10 grandchildren when they get married- - -I have a grandson that "lives-in" so I wont give him the Quilt YET- - is that mean????Anyway I enjoy reading about all the things you girls are doing. I would be interested in your exchange too. I am interested in collecting old blocks.I have bought some at estate sales through the years ,and finished the Quilts, I think I have 5 old Quilts from 20-30s material. Hope to hear from you soon. "you should see my closet???????????"

I love to talk quilts, but exchanges are too much for me right now.

At the moment, I have in the works:

1) 30s repro called Grandma's Dishes. It's just waiting for me to finish handquilting it.

2) replica of a vintage quilt I saw. It's baby sized. I need to finish piecing it and then I am going to attempt to machine quilt it. It'll be the first machine quilted one for me.

3) 30s quilt that I salvaged from a yard sale that is basted and waiting for me to quilt it

4) DS' big boy quilt that is in pieces waiting for me to decide what to do with it

I probably should get off the computer and work on one of those.

I just get so excited to start a new project, that sometimes I jump ahead without finishing the old ones. All of my friends who are crafters do the same, so I must not be that abnormal, right?

I did pull out one and spend a half hour on it today. Now if quilting were my only hobby, it wouldn't be so bad.

Wow! I can't believe this thread was bumped after two years!

I'm still quilting, of course. I'm also running a business from my home, so that takes up a lot of my former sewing time.
