Shampoo (or not) and travel

Hi mamas!

I have always toyed with the idea of no-poo but never really researched it and am wary of the time it takes hair to normalize (us single gals need to look spiffy all the time : ). But I love the idea of my hair being more natural-- it just seems wrong to strip it down with shampoo and then artificially moisturize with conditioner.

Anyway, I am leaving soon to travel the world (I quit my job and I'm becoming a vagabond -- very excited!!) so I'm not sure what my living conditions will be like. I need an easy way to keep clean (or a good reason not to ). I have been testing out Dr. Bronner's as a body wash and it's working great, and I have washed my hair with it a few times. Is there any reason why this may not work for long-term? I love the idea of just carrying one thing around with me!!

Also, a quick overview of no-poo-ing would be great -- I know baking soda and acv are involved... would this be possible with traveling?

I just have no idea at all what to do so any suggestions or info would be welcomed!! Thanks!

I don't see any problem with BS and ACV and traveling. You just have to make sure you have an extra container to dilute the ACV, if that's what you do. Also, if you are flying, you may want to either pack the BS away in your checked in luggage or buy a new box when you get to your destination. I only say this, because I have thought about it and if I was just carrying a container of some unknown white powder, would I be arrested or questioned thoroughly by airport security? Maybe not, but it's something that's crossed my mind.

Makes sense... but what do you do with it? Mix it together to make a volcano? Use it every time? And how does your hair smell after putting vin in it? Should I get some eo's too?

I don't mix the BS and ACV together. That might be a mess! I take some BS in my hand and make a paste with water and just apply it to the roots, then rinse well. Then I make a mixture of 1/2 cup ACV (sometimes a little less), 1 tbsp of honey and put it in a 20 oz jar, fill the rest of the way with warm water and add 3-4 drops each of lavendar EO and tea tree oil. Mix well and pour about 1/3 of the mixture on my hair. I let it soak in for a few minutes, then rinse well. It seems to work well. You could probably use 1/3 of all of the ingredients at a time to make a smaller, single use batch. But, what works for me, may not work for your hair type. If your hair is getting to dry, maybe use a little more ACV, if it's getting too oily, try using white vinegar. Experiment for what works best for you.

Good luck!!

i would NOT let the acv sit in your hair. that makes it greasy and weighed down. just put it on the ends and rinse. or use white vinegar. also, i dont use any eo's and the vinegar smell fades away pretty fast.

Do you do the baking soda and vinegar every day?
I don't. The most I use them is every other day.

There's a great sticky at the top of this forum with tons of advise on going no-poo.

After you move past the breaking-in period, many people find they only have to do the bs / acv once every 5 days or so.

Thanks! I haven't read it yet cause I wasn't sure if it would work with traveling, plus sometimes I don't have the patience to sift through huge posts LOL : I'll check it out
