Waldorf Doll fabric

Hi Guys i really need some help.

Im starting to gear up to make my first waldorf doll foir my sons first birthday
I have made other dolls before out of calico etc.

We dont have a lot of money so i didnt want to buy a kit and i live in rural Australia and im having trouble finding tricot....

I was wondering does everyone use tricot for the waldorf dolls or is there another fabric that can work just as well that could be a bit cheaper, also i was thinking of getting a pattern from Sarahs Dolls, but im not sure how much fabric etc i would need.

Also does anyone know how to treat the wool, to make it into wool stuffing or is that more of a knitters questions?

Please Help....

I have been using a knit sheet I purchased on clearance. I got lucky and found 2 skin-tone knit flat sheets on Lands' End overstocks for $3.99, but that was a couple months ago. This time of year, though, with back-to-school time just finishing, stores often clearance their knit sheets which are popular college student items.

I don't know if this is going to be the best quality for doll making as far as pilling and long-term play wear and tear, but I thought I'd mention it since you asked about cheaper options. You could just buy a single pillowcase and have enough fabric to make a large doll.

I have heard that you can use a white tee shirt that is dyed with cold tea. I hope that helps...there are some great free tutorials online that have free patterns.
