So I Spent All Weekend Painting...

I spent all weekend painting our living room, took me 3 days, and I don't like it : . I think I may just have to get used to it but the color turned out much darker than I had hoped for. Ugh. This really stinks because it is a hard room to paint. It took me 3 brand new rolls of tape to tape everything. And I had to find a sitter for Olivia and I'm sore from going up and down the ladder....Did I mention I am really ticked?

Have you hung up your pictures and artwork yet? That may change the look.

I want to see pictures!

I've done that before. I ended up putting a lighter color over it (just one coat) and it really helped.

I used to paint interiors (historical homes) and many people dislike the color after it's up. heh. I always tell clients to go a shade lighter than what they originally like in a paint sample. But, of course, I didn't listen to my own advice on my own living room that one time.

You could do a technique over the darker color with a little lighter color to make it less dark. Do you have a picture of it? If so, I could give you some ideas.

I should have gone one shade or possibly two lighter. Wish I would have left the tape up. We haven't hung up pictures yet, hoping to do it tonight or tomorrow night. I think one problem I have is that room used to be tan so my green plants really popped out and looked great and now they blend in. I can try relocating but they do best there. I think we also may need another small end table and a table lamp for at night. I like a lot of light.

I would recommend you just live with it for a while, if you don't feel like painting over it right away. I did that once and I finally got so sick of the color, because I hated it from the beginning that I repainted. Hmm, so maybe I should take my initial advice back?

You might try getting more lamps and such, that sometimes helps a color appear brighter.

I love to paint, and use new colors, and rarely am I completely happy with a job immediately (but I do like it after a few days, and get my confidence back). I think it has something to do with the exhaustion of painting and getting the room back to normal. Plus, colors change so much in different lights through the day. If the tape is already down, just sit back for a day or 2. Hang the pictures, relax in the room. See if it grows on you. After a few days you'll better know if it needs a complete redo, or a shade lighter, or just fine as is.

I've been there, I feel your pain! Please post pics!

Depending on your style, you could get a lighter shade and sponge that on the dark paint.
and yeah, I feel for you. I ended up repainting my bedroom cuz my first choice of colors didn't work out at all, oh and I had to do that in ds room too.
learning experiences, they are all good. :
