A New Year, A New Teacher

Okay so I'm less nervous than I was last year when we were brand new to the school, but aaahhhhh I hate having to just leave her with someone I don't know!

I've seen her teacher around but I don't really know him. I've heard he's really strict (some call him military) but some said their kids really loved him as a teacher. I just hope that DD has fun and comes home from the school bus happy and smiling like she did last year.

I will feel better after I see how she feels about him as a teacher and hear about what they are doing in their class.

Why don't teachers understand that they need to introduce themselves to parents before they start taking care of their children?

You are so right about meeting a teacher before entrusting your precious children to them! At our school, we had several opportunities to meet our teacher prior to the first day of school. There were volunteer days, a parents evening and an ice cream social with the kids. When we saw that the teacher was a gentle, kind person, and it was very reassuring for us to know our little kindergartener was in good hands.

So far, Hope has had two great days at school.

I met a parent whose child had the same teacher last year and they both loved him. She said her child learned a lot and that he sang with the kids too making it fun.

When I mentioned the discipline thing she said he is strict but fair. Hearing that helped a lot! Being fair is really important to me!

The Meet The Teacher Night is next Thursday and I will talk to him about my concerns then.

My experience has been that the strict teachers (if they do it right - and they're strict, not just mean) are among the most popular because the environment is calmer and more predictable. And heck, if he sings too, that's great!

Well that's really good to know, thanks for sharing that!
