Unexplained bleeding and hospital stay

Well, I just got back from spending the night in the hospital. Yesterday I had some bright red bleeding out of nowhere. The midwife took me to the hospital where an ultrasound and vaginal exam revealed...absolutely nothing. There wasn't even any blood in the vagina when they did the exam, but there was a LOT of blood before I went to the hospital, so we really have no idea where it came from.
The placenta is fine, baby is very low, but the cervix is closed. They wanted me to stay overnight for observation. It was not a fun experience but the baby is fine and I'm glad to be home, and to hear about all the babies that were born the past few days.

sorry about your scary experience, especially since it's still unexplained. That must be frustrating and worriesome. But it sounds like babe is just fine! Hope you can get some rest. Hang in there!

Where is your placenta laying? I had a problem with unexplained bleeding with one of my pregnancies and it turned out that my placents was laying right over my cervix and that is what was causing it.

It was scary! I never had any pain, there was just a gush of blood all of a sudden.
The placenta is high up on the left. The baby is moving all over the place. They did four, 30- minute sessions of external monitoring in addition to the ultrasound and 3 vaginal exams while I was there(after I had carefully avoided all VE, doppler and ultrasound throughout the pregnancy ) and the baby's heartbeat was always normal, nothing unusual was seen on the U/S.

The only thing I can think of is that yesterday morning I nearly fell TWICE on the bus when it started up jerkily before I had sat down. I had some pain in my abdomen from being jerked back and sideways and catching myself, but only for a couple of minutes, and the bleeding didn't occur until 3 hours after that. WHo knows?

Luckily all of the nurses at the hospital except for one were very friendly, the doctor was nice (if a little rough with the VEs) and as far as hospitals go it was not too bad. I could wander around, there was a self-service kitchen stocked with food and drinks, friends and family - including children- could visit whenever they wanted. I was still scared that I would go into labor last night though and end up having to birth there, so I am extra glad to be home.

My DH is being great. He and the kids came to visit me at the hospital last night bearing snacks and chocolates and books and clothes. I have been sleeping all day and he made lunch and has been cleaning like a madman and helping the kids with their homeschooling.

Oh my! I am so GLAD that everything is fine and you are doing better!!

That is so scary. I had something similar at around 20 weeks, and we never did find out why. I had previously had a partial previa, but it had resolved and there was no evidence that it was placenta related. So glad to hear you are back home and okay!

Glad everything is okay. Wish you had an answer for the bleeding though. Weird things to happen though and you may never know why.

HUGS!
