Book Rec's for Toddler about Cancer, Disease, Sickness?

I have breast cancer and I'm currently going through chemotherapy. I just lost my hair over the weekend and last night my daughter (2.5 yrs) asked me, "Are you different?" She then told me that I look like a daddy.

I would love any book recommendations for toddlers that discuss sensitive issues such has disease, sickness, handicaps, differences in appearance, etc.....

I have been preparing her all along the way since my diagnosis in June. First, I had a left breast mastectomy and we talked in depth about mommy having surgery and that mommy will only have one breast for a while. Then, it was the placement of my chemo port in my chest. I have a lump and a scar from that procedure. Now, it's the loss of my hair.

Thank you in advance for any input!!

I have no suggestions but I wanted to give your thread a bump......

I hope you get some good responses

( you might have better luck posting this in the toddler section???)

Adding this because I just read your blog. Wow, you are an amazing women. Amazing. I really got a lot out of reading your entries. The last entry made me think of a book my dd has. Its very simple. Its the "okay" book. (Its okay to be big, its okay to be short, its ok to have purple hair, etc......whatever happens, its all okay )

I am also unhelpful with your question, but I read your blog and I am going to be praying for you. (Hopefully that isn't offensive to you, but whatever your faith, it can't hurt, right?) What an amazing mama you are.

It's been a while since I read it, but I recall a book entitled something like "the jester who lost his jingle" and it was SAD, but well done...

FOUND IT

http://www.amazon.com/Jester-Has-Los...9104207&sr=8-5

best wishes to you and yours....

Thank you for the recommendation! I searched amazon and I see that the author also has a book titled, "It's Okay To Be Different". I'm going to head to the library today and see if I can pick it up. Thank you.

I talk with my daughter on regular basis about what is going on. She loves books and loves to read (she's excellent about recalling the words after I've read it once or twice). She even picks up a book and reads it to me and baby brother in my belly. I love those moments.

I just figured If I can find a book then it's just another way to discuss everything that is going on. AND, it will be something she can pick up and read when she feels like it.

Again, thank you.
