To be sure. But is mainstream vax research, in this day and age, really "useful" technology?

I'm of the opinion that the technology itself is basically "good".
It's the way it's applied that I take issue with.

Like, an HIV vaccine offered to people in HIV endemic areas I think would be great. It's the brainwashy, shove-it-down-people's-throats, "let's squash all discussion about possible error and forge ahead no matter what" stuff that will end up sucking.

I can't remember if I read this recently or heard a commercial on tv, but the key words that caught my attention,

RARE, BUT CAN BE DEADLY.

Why not be happy about the development of safe and/or effective treatments or preventives for diseases? The problem is that the products usually aren't as safe OR effective as they claim they are.

ETA: Did you just say AIDS can be life-threatening if left untreated?!?! Where did you learn that? Because it's wrong, and I don't mean to be snarky, I just don't want anyone telling their kids that as long as AIDS is treated it's not fatal or life-threatening. AIDS IS ALWAYS LIFE-THREATENING TREATED OR UNTREATED! It's 100% fatal. No one has ever been cured of AIDS, ever, ever, ever, ever. I believe some people of Eastern European descent with a certain gene have partial or complete immunity to HIV (the highest estimate I've seen is 10%, but it's debated), but AIDS is always fatal.
Sorry, but you're wrong. With conventional treatment, it's usually fatal. The treatment itself kills people. Alt med has different outcomes. The late great Rev. Hanna Kroger (Kroeger), RN treated a number of people with full-blown aids and got documented sero-conversion. She had a treatment. She was a prodidious researcher, active in alt med, and a mystic of sorts who came up with a multi-pronged treatment for AIDS which involved something which stripped the protective coat off the involved viruses which included a monkey virus and bovine-visna virus from sheep, killed them, treated co-factors which included yeast infections, heavy metals, parasites like protozoa and hookworms, and immune paralysis from exposure to fluoride in the water and other sources. My own naturopathic physician said she could cure AIDS, but that it would require lifestyle changes most were unwilling to undergo. She didn't elaborate which ones. Rev. Kroger's pot of remedies included homeopathic remedies, herbs and some kind of tree bark she was led to find in a vision.

Seroconversion? People with AIDS have antibodies to HIV. What do you mean by seroconversion?

Could you point me to where this treatment has been documented to cure AIDS?
