A wasp just stung me in the ear - OW!

I thought some hair was blown into my ear, but when I went to move it out of the way, I felt a horrible sting! Right inside my ear! The nerve!!! Fortunately, it was right outside of a walk-in clinic and I had it checked out. It's just swollen and still stinging, but no apparent allergies or remaining stinger (and no wasp remaining in my ear as I had feared :LOL)

The doctor seemed to think everything was okay, I'm just worried about the baby. I'm sure everything is just tickety-boo - but I have never been stung before and I don't know what effect if any it may have on the baby. Google doesn't seem to have any answers either.

Do you think it may be a problem for the baby?

You're probably fine.

I, however, would not be. I'd need an epi pen.

I had always wondered about having a bee/wasp sting allergy. It's good to know that all that happens here is a horrible pain and slight swelling - much better than the alternative.

Still smarts though 10 hours later :

Ouch! I can only imagine how painful that was! :

My understanding is, you don't react to the *first* sting. That's the one that, if it hits your immune system wrong, causes it to create antibodies and react to the *next* sting.

What that may mean for your baby is that they're exposed now, and could react the first time they get stung by a wasp. The allergy's not terribly common, though, so it's just something to keep in the back of your mind (and to let him/her know maybe when s/he's older... baby might be all grown up for their first sting, too!)

OH, I believe it. I had a bee sting my toe early this summer and I thought I was just gonna die! (Figuratively!) Thankfully, it seems only wasps make my throat and nose close up, so as long as I avoid them I'll be ok!

You can always develop an allergy even if you don't react now (other than localized reaction like you're having), that's what happened to me, but chances are you'll be ok.

Any better this morning?

Thanks mamas! It's all okay now, just a little itchy.

The doctor told me that they have had more people with wasp stings this week than they have ever had in one week! The grapes must be extra fermentey this year, because they seem really very drunk and clumsy.

I mean seriously - how the heck does a wasp end up inside one's ear that has hair hanging down over it?! That same block today looked like a late night wasp frat party - they were literally dive bombing people!
