So I was *not* prepared for DS. I was working so many hours and I dont think it ever really sunk in that I was pregnant. He came 4 weeks early and his birthing experience was scary and confusing. He was also sick and we fell through every crack imaginable and had crappy LC's. Our bf relationship ended at 3 months and I'm still heartbroken about it. I want to be very prepared this time. At least now I have MDC! I didnt find it until DS was 4 or 5 months old.

So, what books would you recommend for pregnancy, labor and bfing? The only books I have now are What to Expect When You're Expecting and The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. Both of which scare me!!

I have "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding." and Dr. Sear's "The Baby Book." I want to add to my library though. I also have "What To Expect", but I don't really want to reference it anymore!

I would recommend anything by Dr Sears, and I also loved Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth. I love the stories in the beginning of Ina Mays books it is fun to read over and over. It is nice to hear the stories from the mothers and their point of view. The second half of the book has a lot of good information about childbirth. Also you will learn a lot just by hanging out her at MDC. Congratulations and hope you have more fun this time arround.

A local midwife just raved about Pushed. It looks really good.

I loved Ina May's Guide to Childbirth for the wonderful stories that so beautifully illustrated that there is no one right stage of pregnancy, or one right labor, or one right anything in childbirth. We also devoured The Natural Pregnancy Book by Aviva Jill Romm. Talk about a wonderful alternative to "What to Expect." I loved her laid back, "this is normal, healthy & beautiful" approach to pregnancy & childbirth.

Birthing From Within. I wasn't quite ready for it last time, but this time I think I'll give it another try.

I use What to expect to hold up a part of my desk.
Anything by Dr. Sears - can't go wrong there.
Birthing from Within and the Bradley Method are sometimes scary but what you need to know.
I am a BFAR Mom and have tons of Breastfeeding books. Breastfeeding Companion is good. I find myself going back to the BFAR book for regular questions though, so maybe it's worth getting at the library for a look if you don't want to buy it. Defining Your own Success by LLL. It has inspiring stories of BFAR sure to help out any Mom!

I'm going to check out Pushed thx
