Hello everyone! I just want to share with all of you a little secret that worked for me on my first pregnancy. This can only work for women who are currently pregnant and would like to "PREVENT" post partum depression.

For my first pregnancy I wanted to have a water birth at a birthing center. No hospitals, no doctors, only midwives! In the months before my due date, a midwife, who was helping me with my birthing plan, asked me if I wanted to have placenta pills for after the birth. Placenta pills?? I asked. Then she told me that placenta pills are pills that contain your own dried up/ground up placenta. Then she told me that the placenta is full of the pregnancy hormones. And by taking these pills you help to normalize the hormonal level, or make the sudden fall in hormones less drastic.
Women suffer from depression when the levels of pregnancy hormones present in their body quickly go down after the birth.
This all made sense to me, so I requested to have the pills made. For this, they have save the placenta after the birth and then make the pills.
I took the pills and I really felt the difference. I was feeling fine.

I know this sounds a bit nasty, but it worked for me.
So, this is a natural cure that needs some planning ahead of time.

Do your own research about this and get more info. The best thing is to be informed and to know all your options. And of course, the very best thing is to avoid having to take all those prescription drugs that can get you addicted and cause bad side effects.

Good luck to all of you new moms and moms to be! :-) and yes, I will be requesting placenta pills for the second one too!!!

I just wrote an article on consuming the placenta, and it really is phenomenal. I'm strongly considering having mine made into capsules, if it's not too expensive -- if it is, I may just do it myself, as I found a recipe for doing that also. They say that eating it raw is the best, but I can't bring myself to do that. Yuck. Pills will work fine for me, thanks.

The price of placenta pills?

Hi Queenbean,

My pills didn't cost me a penny - they just gave them to me at the maternity center. They had their own freezers to keep the placentas in, and they made the pills themselves. I'm thinking it might have been included in the whole final price, which my insurance took care of. The maternity center I went to in South Florida is really awesome. You might want to check out places that offer this service in your area and see if they can make the pills for you.
