Plastic toys?

Please forgive my ignorence here, I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this ??

I have been avoiding plastic for years, since ds was baby (9ys) and learned about the toxins in "soft" plastic, teethers ect.
Now I have a 3 mo and I am woundering about the safety of ALL plastic toys (not to mention LEAD PAINTED ONES!: )

I do have a couple all nat. wooden toys, and plan on getting her org. doll, ect.-- But grandma got her a bunch of those cute "sassy" plastic toys.
I'm wondering if they're safe (my first instinct says NO!?)

Does anyone know of any reliable info on this ? or just personal opinion, what do you other mommies do about plastic toys??: :

TIA

Hello...
Well I actually took away a majority of the plastic toys in my home. I keep the baby dolls out and their clothes. DD has metal pretend kitchen utensils, wooden puzzles, and plays with these most of the time. The only things that I kept aroudn that are plastic and made in China are her V-tech Toys, Playskool toys, and Little Tykes toys. I have not found anything on these toys to say that they are harmful to her health so she gets to keep these.
When she was a baby she really didnt use teethers-only every once in a while for a bite but never really depended on em. We used washcloths and frozen fruit etc...as far as toys when she was that age we had mostly cloth toys(cloth books, blocks etc). Most of her stuff was made by Lamazze or Discovery toys. Those to me were the safest to give her. We really didnt start getting her a lot of toys till she was closer to a year.
Those toys that others get her for holidays and such honestly rarely get played with. Some of them just arent up to her speed and dont challenge her enough for her to want to play with them.
I found a great site for wooden toys too-I think I might be getting toys from there this season.
For us here it was a matter of looking up toy companies for their history of safety and recalls. Then we decided what toys to let her keep and what to put away(or what not to buy her).

My babes grandma also gave dd tons of plastic toys. I never intended to give her anything but natural toys, but figured I would go with it...until the recalls started. Once things like Sesame Street and Dora toys started going, I figured none of them are safe...How can we be sure otherwise? So, I bagged up all the plastic and most of the synthetic stuffed animals - with the exception of 2 that have been life savers in the car (I am trying to get her off these as well, but sometimes sanity must prevail for a time).

My thought is, with recalls for toys that are over 2 years old, the extent of this must be widespread. So why chance it?

I found a great site on the web www.atoygarden.com that has wonderful natural toys at affordable prices...they ship quickly and almost all are made in Germany and US with nontoxic stains and paints. I got my daughter organic stuffed veggie set and a few wood teethers / rattles. And my mom, who is a notorious compulsive shopper, agreed with no more plastic! So, I started a wish list on the site and grandma has since gotten books and puzzle for dd from the site! Hallelujah!!!
