Anyone NOT in a hurry to see a midwife/OB...

When I found out I was preggo with DS I called an OB that day and got things moving…

This time around I’m just feeling so lazy about things. That and DH is going to be finding a new job pretty quick here so it makes more sense to wait on new insurance and all of that.

But other than that, I just don’t feel like dealing with it right now. I don’t feel like being poked and prodded at right now. I'm taking my vitamins and eating well and all of that fun stuff. Been through all of this before so I'm not completely lost

It’ll probably be another month until I need to be seen anyway. I just feel so lazy.

My appointment isn't until October 18th. I'm not excited about the appointment itself (although I know when it happens, I will be), but I AM excited for the trip to Anchorage for the appointment. They have, like, roads, and restaurants, and stores with fresh veggies and fruits there!

As for the poking and prodding... I had to get a penicillin injection for strep throat yesterday, and I just about puked and passed out at the same time. Quite a feat. SO not looking forward to getting blood drawn if this is how pregnancy affects my pre-existing aversion to needles.

I don't have a midwife or OB yet. We moved recently (well, 2 years ago) and I never got a new doc. If I want a midwife (which I do), there are not many choices covered by insurance.

I am planning on a VBAC, so I'm kind of scared that I'm going to meet with resistance. For the moment, I'm gathering information and preparing for the initial consultation. I am very NON-confrontational, so this is really scary for me.

I'm thinking that if I can schedule a few interviews/consultations around 8 weeks, I can make my decision and still have plenty of time before the 12 week checkup.

Yeah this is my first so I called the midwife with in a week of getting my positive. The midwife I am going with accepts my insurance, does home deliveries out in my area and she books early. So I called ASAP so I could make sure I got her. I will probably take my time next time but being my first I am too excited to wait.

No hurry here. My midwife doesn't see you until you're between 10 & 12 weeks anyway. I might call her to give her a "heads up" but not make the appt. Like the OP, I decline all poking & prodding as well.

I'm pg with my first, and still not in a hurry. I finally made an appointment yesterday, mostly because of repeated prodding by my partner and occasionally my mother. I got my BFP before I'd missed my period, and didn't really believe it for a week or so, so I didn't want to call and traipse in there just to get a negative... Then once I believed it, there didn't seem much point. I felt fine, everything was good, what do I need a doctor for? I don't like doctors much anyhow, and this one won't be delivering the baby (we have a move planned) and I didn't figure he could do much at that point besides tell me to take my vitamins.

When I did call I found out that my OB doesn't even do a pg test unless requested, just schedules you for a 6-8week prenatal once you've gotten a HPT+ and missed your period, so I didn't miss anything. Morning sickness has started and I've managed to catch a cold, so I have a few more questions at this point to make it worth my while.

I called my midwife right away because she turns down about 20 women per month where I live...so as soon as I got my BFP on 11dpo...I CALLED! She is such a great lady and I can't wait to start having visits...I'm a talker and I have lots of strange questions for her....Anyway...just my 2 cents

Oh yay Julie, I'm with you on that!! My midwife is semi-retired now, so I called her early this summer to see if she'd be willing to make an exception for me. She said as long as the birth didn't fall during summer school break, she probably could (she might want to take her family on a vacation when school gets out). Thank God we conceived this cycle, or we might have been outta luck!

Anyway, she does home visits for prenatals and I'm excited about seeing her again. How lovely to sit down and chat over a cup of tea. I'm not much into poking and prodding, and neither is she.

With my first pregnancy I called the day after I found out. I sort of freaked out when she gave me an appointment for the next week. With this one I'm much more laid back. I just applied for Medicaid, so once that kicks in I'll be making an appoinment. No rush here.

This is my first homebirth, so I emailed the midwife I have in mind to set up an "interview". I'm fairly certain I will go with her, but still want to sit down and talk, as I've only talked to her a few times before and it was social (for the most part). She is so awesome -- she emailed back and said she was busy with a birth and some postpartum stuff, so she wouldn't be able to call me for a day or two, but she gave her number and said I could call for any reason, day or night. It's nice to know there's someone I can talk to if I start bleeding, or have anything weird happen, etc. Like I said, I know we're going to be a good fit (she's on MDC in fact, which is how I met her), but I do still want to talk, now that I'm actually pg .

I'm headed in next week (the 12th) when I'll be about 6.5 weeks along. I want DH to meet the midwife...since this go around we are switching from an OB and hospital to MW and birth center. But, I will be requesting some testing to be done by week 11-12 so this appt. will help get that set up (at the hospital near the BC). If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be in any rush. I am excited...but so much more at ease doing this for a 2nd time...

I'm not. With my first and second, I couldn't wait to call. With my third, I was more relaxed, and now, well, I'm taking my own, very sweet time about it. Part of it is because I'm about to move out of state, but part of it is just a very hands off attitude this time around. I don't need someone else to confirm my pregnancy, and am savoring the quiet time.

I'm not going in anytime soon either...who knows if I even will at all. I'm not opposed to a UP. But it's taken a LOT for me to just trust God with this, since I had 2 m/c's before DD and was on progesterone supplements with her (by choice). But if I do see someone it probably won't be until well into the 2nd tri.

There was a rush to make the appointment (my midwives only take a certain amount of people for every four week period and I wanted to make sure I could birth with them) but no rush for having it. It's not for over a month or so.

I am so not in a hurry! I had all this forethought and planning last time and now with this little surprise I find myself at a loss. What *are* my plans? I'm on different insurance and I don't know anything about their coverage, I don't know enough about my options, I'd hoped to be in better shape. Eeps. *sinking in* Dude, I'm pregnant. Wow. Ok then, I think it's time for some research, lol.
