co-op preschool or montessori?

DS is enrolled at a Montessori preschool and has been going for about 5 weeks, two half days a week. He was upset at first and then seemed to like it very much and made a friend, but now he says he is sad at preschool and doesn't even want to go to see his friend. The Montessori has a strict no parent participation rule so I can't join DS even once week to share what he is doing and see if he is really unhappy or if it is just a phase of separation anxiety he is going through.

My dilemma is that a new co-op preschool is opening and I have strong feeling that I would like to join so that I can be involved more in DS's school life especially when he is so young and I have a chance to do so. What I am worried about is changing his preschool again (when he was 2 he went to a mommy and me toddler school, which he really enjoyed, and then we changed to another preschool which neither of us liked at all, an now he is at the Montessori). I am worried DS will be bothered by yet another change, and lose out not seeing his friend at school and have to make friends again (although we could always see his friend outside of school, I suppose). Does this matter so much in the short time he has been at this school, and at his age? Or does it matter more that he sees me at his school involved in what he is doing?

Assuming the new co-op met my expectations for the type of school I wanted, I would switch for the very reason that the current school does not allow parent participation.

My daughter attends a play based co-op preschool and it has been wonderful for our family. Parent participation is not only allowed, but required :-)

If you and your son will be happier with the co-op, then do it. I love our co-op.

My son was in a co-op and we loved it. It was also play based. We recently moved but I'm definately going to look for another coop preschool when dd's a bit older.

Exactly what she said, except my older child is a daughter.
Co-ops are wonderful!

I'm really bummed that I wasn't able to find a nearby co-op for DD1 when we moved. I've decided that when DD2 is ready, I'll just have to suck it up drive to one in a nearby town.
