TF Pregnancy Club! - Page 9

Ron just recommended the Organ Delight because it had a variety of organs and glands, which he said are all important for expectant mamas. I'm only taking 2 per day because they're sooo expensive. I figure some is better than none.

Hiding a little liver in meat loaf is a great idea! Someone also told me that calf liver is less strong-flavored than adult cow liver.

Leilalu - I did the Hulda Clark herbal cleanse for however long she recommends; 3 or maybe 4 weeks. *shrug* What do you know about the oil of oregano? Is that the same as oregano essential oil, and is it safe during pregnancy? Also if anyone is worried about tapeworm, there's an easy way to get rid of them. On an empty stomach, eat one pomegranate. Then eat some dried fruit (prunes would be good). The pomegranate has something in it that stuns the tapeworm and the dried fruit clears out your bowel, sweeping the comatose tapeworm along with it. Judging by the scale, I don't think I have that problem, but there's the remedy in case anyone wanted it

I'll try to get that bread recipe posted soon. The finished product met with DH's approval! He said he could eat the whole loaf in one sitting

Ally'smom thanks for the recipes will take a look and see if I can really try and consume those. Lucky my dh is the cook in this house so I don't actually have to handle the stuff.

Jen thanks for suggestions of how to disguise it. How many of those little "pills" would you take a day?

Taedereth organ delight is also so expensive here, 2 a day would last a lot longer than 6 and as you say, that's a lot better than nothing.

How long have you been interested in Traditional Foods and how did you first learn about it? When DD was born (5/03), it quickly became apparant that she could not have milk. (okay, *I* was the one who couldn't drink it!) I researched and found out about raw milk, and subsequently WAPF. We still can't do milk, but started out transitioning our diets back then, and it took perhaps a year to fully transition our diets.

When is your baby due? 1-3-08 - yay!

Which number child will this be for you, and what are the ages of your other children (if any)? This is #2, DD1 is approaching 4.5.

What kind of birth are you having? homebirth w/ midwife

What are your other interests/hobbies? uh, well, I feel like my only interest and/or hobby right now is parenting, nutrition, cooking, gut healing, food allergies, and homeschooling. I don't have time to fit in anything else.

What part of the world do you live in? Portland, OR

One crazy fun fact about yourself![/QUOTE]
This one is most difficult for me to answer. I am about the most boring and practical person I know! But I love my life and am extremely happy!! If I think of something, I'll come back here. Oh, we move a lot for DH's jobs - he's a contractor.

I was actually going to post my liver solution, which is just what Jen mentioned. I have been really battling anemia this pregnancy, which is odd since I have so much red meat in my diet! Anyway, the ND wants me eating liver or doing Dr. Ron's liver capsules. I bought the bottle, but I have so much high quality liver just sitting in my freezer that it seems like such a waste to spend money on the Dr. Ron's.

So, DH sweetly cut up the liver into little nuggets, about the size of 1/2 a pinky tip. That was a tedious chore, and I couldn't have done it myself because my anemia has me so weakened. We froze some, and dehydrated some to figure out what's going to work best. The frozen chunks go down like a pill very easily, and I don't taste a thing!! I arbitrarily chose to take 6 little nuggets 3x per day, I suppose because I take my iron supplement 3x per day.

I have not yet tried the dehydrated ones, but I figure I'll save those for when I'm out & about. They probably won't digest as well as the frozen bits.

We ground the rest in the blender, and froze about 1 T portions, and I haven't added that to any foods yet.

I did email Dr. Ron, and he said that taking the Organ Delight *and* the liver together during pregnancy is recommended. But I would like an "unbiased" opinion.

I spoke with my ND (who is well-studied in TF) about supplements, and he said that his ideal regimen (for himself) is CLO, Vitamineral Green, and Organ Delight, along with a good, TF diet. He said the Organ Delight has a lot of different nutrients in it, and gave Vit C as an example because that's in high concentrations in the adrenals. He wants *me* taking all that plus the liver, plus Floradix for my anemia. I also take the high vitamin butter oil.

I have a cleanse by Gaia, I think. It's one that has all different oils. I did take it for like a week, but then thought I may be pregnant, so I stopped. I got some interesting looking poops
A good friend of mine had gone on a mission trip to a country where they were ministering to some people who had terrible cleanliness habits. She came back, and got about 50 warts on one foot, and her face got a severe skin rash and they had to graft some skin.(you can't tell now- she's beautiful) Anyway, a naturepath told her to do a parasite cleanse, and all the warts then fell off pretty much immediately.

Oil of oregano is good for lots of things. Suppossedly one drop purifies 5,000 or 500,000 gallons of water or something. I know I always put a drop in our filtered water bottles occasionally. You can also take it internally, and if you just took a drop or two a day I don't know that it would be harmful. My mom started taking it and it cured her of chronic fatigue. She was basically prescribed every antibiotic known to man by some stupid doctor I couldn't stand, back in Florida. He could've cared less, and was using her as a guinea pig.

It is also good for candida.

I guess the problems I have with parasites is that, having been on several trips out of the country for missions myself, I know I picked up some undoubtedly. I have been in some pretty interesting places. And I just don't want TO FEED THEM
I eat a good diet and I don't want to feed the critters.

I did a bit of reading and I see that you have to get Origanum vulgare specifically. It's a wild species, not the kind you eat on your pizza. Mountainroseherbs has it - 0.5oz for $7.50. Not bad!

I think that is actually just the scientific name The problem with it, is that it makes everything smell like oregano.

One site said it completely destroys yeast , when placed together in a petri dish.

The only contrandication I saw was not to use in the first trimester. I can ask MIL(who has huge books on chinese medicine and herbs) if it is ok

You have to buy EOs by their Latin names, because the various subspecies of herbs can have widely different properties (and scents). Here's a reply from a licensed English aromatherapist (on the natural home and body forum):

Sadystar - Well I´m glad you bought this up....I´ve always been a little puzzled as to why my training taught me not to use Oregano oil and yet many North Americans I´ve met seem to use it quite commonly. So your question finally got me round to looking it up and it seems here is an important lesson in buying and referring to EOs by their latin names...

True Oregano is Origanum vulgare. However the EO most commonly used in Europe is Thymus Capitus, and most safety data refers to this.

Hence why being European, I´ve been warned off Oregano oil as it has a particularly high Carvacrol content which is a moderate irritant and toxin.

That said, origanum vulgare should have a carvacrol content of around 0.5%, so check out the latin name of the oil. There is a subspecies (Origanum vulgare hirtum which may explain the high carvacol content.

Personally I wouldn´t use an oil with such a high carvacol content, and being trained in the UK, I´m not suitably qualified to recommend internal use of any oil to anyone.

this is good to know. This is why I love the mothering board

I'll check mine...

And I don't actually take it much myself, but I will use it to purify things occasionally.

But that is totally not working for me right now. Instead, I need to eat smaller meals every few hours. Otherwise, I get lightheaded and queasy.
A little late here, but yes...I've found myself in a somewhat similar situation, but opposite. Before becoming pregnant I almost always had to have a snack - of course, that probably was due to my IR and PCOS. Since becoming pregnant I haven't really felt all that hungry.

I'm 26wks and had thought that around now would be when my appetite would pick up, but that really hasn't been the case. Now I'm finding that sometimes if I have a smoothie in the morning I have to force myself to eat lunch b/c I'm just not hungry. I think it's amazing how much pregnancy can change things.

As for non-TF foods in pg...first it was Pop Tarts and now it's Cocoa Krispies and Strawberries (or bananas). At least they're in raw milk, though!

Wow, I wish I could say the same! I'm only 5 weeks and I'm eating like a HORSE. I work from 8-1 every morning and used to be able to have breakfast before and lunch afterwards. Now, I have breakfast before, eat a bowl of yoghurt and granola by 9, and finish my lunch by 11 and bum a snack off someone before I leave at 1. And THEN I go home and sleep off the afternoon (I HATE naps).

My non-TF food? Latin food. Beans and spanish rice, enchiladas, chips and salsa at my favourite Latin restaurant. Though my husband thinks it's TF for me because my dad is hispanic!

All this parasite talk is making me feel itchy! BLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAHH! I've had many a nightmare about parasites - but the kind that live in flesh rather than in your digestive system. Either variant is ICKY though!

Was glad to hear the liver ideas from all of you - I've not been eating it, though I have some lovely lamb & chicken livers in the freezer. I think I'll try that liver patty recipe that was posted. Or taking frozen nuggets - interesting! But ALLYSMOM - question about that - I assume when she says rolled oats, she means SOAKED rolled oats? What do you do with that recipe?

My appetite has fluctuated madly so far. Some days I feel like I have to eat every 1/2 hour, but the day after that happens, I inevitably have almost no appetite & sleep for many hours. The past few days my appetite has been pretty low. It varies wildly, but when I get hungry...I get HUNGRY!! Like, 'FEED ME THIS INSTANT!' hunger.

oh, and for those who do occasionally calcium supplement - what do you use? i have dr ron's mch calcium blend. just curious as to what others like. (i only take it on days when i just can't stomach any more dairy & haven't wanted greens - i still don't particularly want greens!)

susun weed's wise woman herbal for the child bearing year recommends nettle tea--so you might check that out. it's high in Ca and mag.
hi zoebird, i actually do that - i drank 2 c of nettle infusion a day to help prepare for conception, and i've been drinking 2c a day of a nettle/raspberry leaf infusion throughout (well, didn't start the raspberry leaf til week 14). so i'm sure that helps a lot, though i have yet to figure out how much calcium i'm actually getting from that. i'm sure it's a decent amount though! especially since it's easily assimilatable.

This is how I was my first pregnancy

This time, I was not very hungry until about 10 weeks.Sure, I ate, but didn't have the desire to really eat until about then. Now, I eat, but if I eat too much I am in trouble because I feel terrible after, so I try not too

Spanish rice can be done right yk Especially cooked in chicken stock. And S.F. has a really great mexican rice casserole in NT,I HAD TO HAVE about a month ago.

Mmm... I'm still working my way through the basics in NT, but I'll look that up. I'm sooooooo craving Latin food, and I have a pot of stock in the freezer just waiting to be made into something yummy.

:

<-- love that yum smiley right now because I feel like I'd eat my face off if I didn't bring enough food to work.

Jumping in to say hi again. We have done alot of research into the meat in our area and have decided to be a 1/4 beef from an awesome farm in 2 weeks. We've always just bought from a local organic butcher which does some grassfed, some grain. This new farm we are purchasing from is http://www.skagitriverranch.com/ They are 100% organic grassfed cows, highly recommended by many sources and they don't even vax their animals. I am SO excited that we are able to do this! We are gluten & dairy free so we eat alot of meat and eggs. We even bought a huge upright energy star freezer so we can continue buying meat like this. We are going to drive all the way (2.5 hours w/o traffic) to this place to pick up our order, so we can see it ourselves.

I'm trying to make sure we have enough meat on hand until after the baby is born. I'm thinking I should order 10-20 chickens and a bunch of bacon. We've never done anything like this before. I'm really feeling blessed that I am able to have access to this good food while pregnant. We already have a wonderful CSA that we get pastured eggs and veggies from year round. This just what we have been waiting for!

Taedareth- The bread you were mentioning....did you use just buckwheat and oat flours? Or was it in addition to wheat/spelt, etc? If it was just buckwheat and oat, then I MUST have the recipe.

Bread is the one area of TF that I really struggle, since we are GF (can tolerate certain varieties of oats). I still buy my kids GF millet bread made w/ yeast : Luckily they don't eat it very often. Until this last week I had been craving things like toast and muffins and eating some GF versions of them, and not eating enough protein/fat. Once I forced myself to eat my normal TF daily diet and didn't eat a bunch of carbs, I felt magically better from the intense nausea. I barely feel sick at all now and can eat my eggs, meat and greens that I love so much!

i'm going to start nettle soon, but i am thinking of holding off on red clover flower or red raspberry leaf until second tri. i think.
