Formula in the mail makes me MAD

I don't use formula, haven't asked for samples...I keep getting box after box after box of formula samples. At first I was keeping them and donating them to the food bank but they just keep coming so I started returning them to sender with a "please stop sending" message on them. At least my postlady knows I am a breastfeeder...the formula companies don't seem to notice my returned packages.

I am so annoyed that they send them without a request. When I first start breast feeding I don't want formula anywhere in my house or near it because I always have a rocky start (odd nipple shape, bad latch because of it so I get lots of pain for first 8 weeks...ouch) and there were some nights that if I had had a bottle of formula I might have given in and fed it to my son. I am sooo glad I made sure to get it out of my house ASAP. But it just keeps coming back. It makes me so angry that they just send it.

Its worse than telemarketing in my mind...at least with that I can get on the do not call list!

I always "return to sender", but I also write them a letter asking them to take me off their mailing list. I doubt anyone is going to pay attention to what you write on the box, but they do have to stop sending you things if you ask.

Also, you might try to figure out how you are getting on the lists in the first place. Sometimes if you sign up for a free parenting magazine, register with a parenting website where you give your due date, at your OBs office (DON'T get me started), there will be a little box "yes, I want coupons, free samples, etc." Someone is selling your name to the formula companies. Lovely.

You should also include a letter to the company informing them that their marketing practices and violations of the WHO MAIF Code are unacceptable to you, and as such you will not be supporting their business.
