I got the house sprayed and feel sick about it, need some advice!

Please no flaming I feel horriable already . We found ticks in our apartment and I freaked out. I'm very natural with almost everything, yet I felt for the safty of my family ticks were something I didn't want to wait for the natural stuff to work. Well I'm freaking out now. I have a two year old and I'm scared to death that I let them spray our carpet. I just want to know what I should do to help him get the least amount of exposure to the chemicals as possiable. I've put blankets down so he's not directly on the carpet. Any help would be great.

The other thing is should I try to get over it knowing this is a one time thing and we don't spray monthly or even annually for that matter. I feel bad even asking that. I don't want any amount of it to harm him yet I was also worried about lyme disease and other problems associated with ticks....Please someone give me some insight on what to do here

I accidentally posted this in the natural family living reviews I think it would be better here!

I don't have special knowledge of this, but I'm guessing a steam clean with straight hot water would remove some of the chemicals.

Occasionally, pulling out the 'big guns' is called for when you have a big infestation problem and all the regular natural remedies have failed. I have bombed our house for fleas after weeks of borax carpet treatment and other things. I just made sure I cleaned up really well immediately after -- steam cleaned carpets, wiped down all hard surfaces, washed all dishes, toys and clothes. It took a lot of work, but our house was overrun with fleas and nothing I did got rid of them. My ds was a few months old at the time and was getting covered in bites. I had to do something.

Try not to beat yourself up about it too much. It's done. Now you can focus on making your home environment healthy.

Talk to the exterminator and find out what was used. Then, check it out for yourself. Some of what is used for ticks is derived from plants and, truly, not so bad.

Also, don't start cleaning the carpets until you find out from the exterminator how long is required to be sure what's been used has been fully effective. Some things are intended to get the next generation, the larvae that hatch, and need to remain for a certain amount of time.

Ticks can carry some nasty diseases. I would probably have chosen just as you did. In any event, don't second guess yourself now. First instincts are usually the "right" choice.

Thank you for that...I know I can't clean the carpets for 3 weeks: I think as hard as it is I'm going to have to try to let it go, and just be as carefull as possiable. OMG it make me sick though to think of the chemicals around him. I did look them up but honestly my head is spinning from the info. Some says it ok and FDA approved, others say you can't trust that approval. I think I don't know how to read this stuff as embarrassing as that is to admit. Thanks for the support I really need it right now.

ticks scare me and I would have done the same thing. I hope you find some peace about it soon.
