Applebee's Nurse-out Success?

Thread Starter
Only a handful of us showed up, but we had several passersby stop and express their support AND the regional director (not certain of his title) of this particular Applebee's put the sticker on the front door of the restaurant and said that he was educating the staff at all 32 locations in their franchise to respect nursing moms!

There was a cameraman from the local news--we'll see later how that turns out.

Anyone else?

ETA: when I said only a handful I was thinking of us mamas--there were about 20 of us altogether.

We only had three mommas show up, which was a little disappointing, but we were in a location with tons of traffic - had a few people honk kindly, and the manager came out twice to "check on us." He wouldn't put up our breastfeeding symbol though, said he "wasn't allowed" - which may be true since he wasn't the GM or anything. Over all it was a nice day, met a new friend in the mix, and definitely felt we at least educated all the gawkers who drove past.

I just got back! That was soooo much fun! Quite a few ppl showed up. And one family made extra signs. They let hold one of them. I was on the sidewalk nursing my 4m old and holding a sign that said, "Breastfeeding is a normal activity" Lots of thumbs up! Lots of honking too. Few were shaking their heads and complaining. It was funny. My very first activism! yea!!! Friend of mine had her camera and took pictures. Hope she'll post them.

Only 5 of us in Leominster, MA, plus kids. The general manager made an appearance . But that was basically it.

I had 2 posters:
"MA Law Doesn't Support Babies 'Eatin' Good In The Neighborhood'"
"Affordable Healthcare Begins With Breastfeeding"

And I made a t-shirt that said:
"Breastfeeding Mothers Have Nothing To Hide" with the logo on the pocket.

I couldn't get to one. Is anyone here from Florida that went? I have to say the few times I nursed in Chilis and recently Sea World there was no negativity.

Congrats! I live in Toronto and I didn't realize that there were a few restaurants way out in the 'burbs or I would have gone. I actually thought that Niagara Falls was the only Ontario restaurant.

Anyway, good for everyone for going and the success!

I had a great time in Denver and my DH was very pleases he wasn't the only male there! It was fun, I got to talk to people and we made our statement.

And while I would have loved 200, it's not the size, it's the fact that we had a nationwide response to this!

I drove by the one in Lexington and it looked like a HUGE success! I have to say I was surprised by how many people there were, and it's on a huge road so it got lots of attention, I'm sure. I didn't stop since I was running around like a crazy woman trying to get some other stuff done (though I definately would have stopped if there wasn't as many people there).

Woo-hoo! Go KY mamas!

I was part of a small group at an Applebees in Tallahassee, Florida.
KierdansMom organized it. The Applebees manager brought her water and offered her chips (just before everyone got there) but they did say that if a mom were nursing and someone complained that they would ask her to cover up or leave.
There were...five moms there with their kids, and a couple dads there chasing toddlers around while the moms held signs at the corner. Babies were nursed as needed. We didn't get any negative comments. We got honks, people giving us the thumbs up sign, and some people rolled down their windows to ask about it. One woman parked and came over to us to ask about it, and told us she nursed her children.

Way to go Kentucky!!!!!!

Portland Nurse-In (x-posted in tribal areas)

We had 37 moms, dads, children, aunts, uncles, nephews and grandparents!!! Woo Hoo!

No news, but the manager (Jeremiah Castle) and the area director (Dell Simonton) gave us a flat of cold water (is that the name for one of those shallow boxes?) and 20 gift bags. Inside were bibs, baby rattles, plug covers, shakers, an apple (of course!) mini children's books and coupons for free stuff at their restaurant.

The Mamas were great! Thanks Maxine45, EllBell, StephanieL, and anyone else I forgot to mention!

(PS- would should have some playdates together!)

You guys ROCK!!

:thanks

Julie
