My house stinks! HELP!

One of the cats peed all over the couch and now the entire house stinks She's not even my cat--she's a stray that DH let in : and now she's ruined my furniture. She's back outside now. I've soaked the couch with Nature's Miracle 3 times now and it doesn't seem to be helping. What else can I do???? I can't afford a new (or even used) couch because we're going through bankruptcy and I can't have the kids around a couch that the cat pissed all over.

Can you borrow an upholstery cleaner or rent one? Many good rug cleaning machines have a hose attachment for use on stairs or upholstery. Perhaps a friend has one to lend? If you can, use the machine with your Nature's Miracle or any other good enzyme cleaning solution. The suction of the machine should allow you to remove most of the urine and cleaning solution. So long as the area stays wet, it will continue to smell its worst.

As for the kids being by the couch, it may smell, but its not harmful.

Actually, it is harmful. DS is asthmatic and the smell does something to him.

The upholstery cleaner is a good idea--I'll have to look into that. Thanks.

I heard you have to leave the NM on for 2 weeks to let it do it's job. Then you wash it off somehow.

Maybe do the NM again and leave it for 2 weeks and then rent a steam cleaner thing?

Then you can febreeze it each week or something.

Add baking soda as well and leave it for 20 minutes or so and then vacum it off with a regular vacum. That should take some odor away.

I know what cat pee pee smells like I have a pee pee cat now! He's been so naughty since I brought home a stray!

I think it would be really hard to clean cat pee from a couch. It soaks in pretty deep where it's hard to clean. If your couch has removable cushions, it might be easier....

I hate cat pee. I tried switching litter a couple weeks ago. I realized the cats didn't like the new kind when I found them peeing on my LR carpet. Twice. The first time I soaked up pee with a rag, scrubbed it with some kind of cleaner, and sprayed it with some kind of special pet urine remover. What finally worked was dumping half a box of baking soda on it (say like, an inch deep... I was angry and desperate at this point) and leaving it for a day or two. Then I swept it up and then vacuumed.

Good luck.
