Washed some diapers--fun!!

In a few months washing diapers won't seem fun at all LOL! But I got some preemie PFs in the mail that hadn't been prepped yet, so I just had to wash them. I wanted to see what they would be like once they quilted up. I threw in a few other diapers too. It was so fun to take them out of the dryer at the end! I love the fresh TTO smell of diaper laundry. And the preemie PFs really are so tiny and cute and soft now...

Just had to share!

Tara, are we living parallel diaper lives or something? I just ORDERED some preemie prefolds.

Seriously though, they quilted up already? Last time it took me a ton of washes for that to happen to my pfs.

I was so excited about washing diapers, I washed them once to see them quilt up but I didn't want to have all the fun right away so I am spreading out the washings to one a week. haha! I love seeing them shrink and quilt up... I have only done the PF's so far but I am going to sun some used covers I got pretty soon. It *is* fun!

Well I let another mama borrow my growing stash for her NB and that helped some. I still have to do the tiny prefolds and some dyed prefolds. I am going to spread out the washings as well. LOL

I'm prepping my diapers too. I am not waiting because EVERYTHING MUST BE DONE NOW, sorry i'm freaking out a little bit. I'm so scared that nothing will be done and my house is a wreck and my husband can't even see that the trash needs to be taken out despite multiple nudgings in that direction from me. Do you really need to dry them in between washing when you prep them (I am but it seems strange)? Also are they supposed to be full of lint? The birds are loving me because my yard is covered in lots of cotton lint, eh they get nest lining for the winter. Though I kind of feel like all absorbable stuff is blo9wing away in the wind.

I have been washing my new diapers too...I love it. Getting the newborn diapers has pushed me to do a lot of nesting. I'm amazed at how quickly my stash has come together.

But I have a question, is there something different to do for used diapers than you would do for brand new ones? I mean, besides wash them in hot with soap?

I can't wait to put these little newborn dipes on a baby! I know that time will be here before I know it!

Beckula- Drying the PFs will help fluff them up and make them more absorbant from what I've read. I've gotten new PFs and used PFs and it seems the used ones are softer and plumper (heck, they even required a larger and heavier box).

Beckula, I can't remember where, but I read that there's absolutely no need to dry in between washings. Maybe it was a pamphlet I got when I bought prefolds for my first baby. Anyway I never did and mine are still going strong from DS.

I will try to find a link for you.

For the new PFs I did 3 hot washes in a row and then dried them. I threw my second-hand infant PFs in with them at the same time (wanted to see if they needed to be stripped). I only added the tiniest bit of detergent to the first load, nothing to the second load, and then put some Calgon, TTO, and Downy Advanced in the last load. The new ones quilted up nicely, didn't seem to be any need to dry them in between loads. And they are all so soft and they smell good.
