Braxton Hicks that cause strange back sensations?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X Posted

Hi there, I am about 32 weeks pregnant and lately, when I have braxton hicks contractions, I have kind of a strange sensation of pressure on my back -- and then some light headedness like when you lie on your back too long...

Could the contractions be causing pressure on the vena cava or whatever that vein is (the reason we are sometimes told NOT to lie on our backs).

Is this something to worry about? An indication that the baby is posterior?

Thanks,

Due on Halloween! Cool!

Your question is hard to Dx over the internet... I would talk it over with your midwife or doc, someone who is in the same room with you and can palpate your belly to feel the baby and better answer your concerns

Thanks -- I don't have an apt for almost 2 weeks -- do you think it is something I need to call about before my next apt?

Otherwise I am totally fine and baby is moving -- but sometimes these contractions feel exactly like if I were lying on my back..

Yes -- Halloween is a cool due date! My daughter was born on the summer solstice!

Yes! I had that exact sensation, with the lightheadedness and all, when I was pregnant with the twins. It was between around 32 and 36 weeks that it used to happen, for me. And nobody ever seemed to have any idea what it was. I asked my midwife, my OB, and my perinatologist, and they all looked at me blankly and suggested that I rest more and put my feet up.

I have no idea what caused it or whether it might have been causing the babies any trouble; I can say that the twins are almost 7 months now, born healthy at term, so it can't have been too harmful.
