Most preschools Ive been looking at online say children must be potty trained. When they say that, are they expect your 3 or 4 year old to always take him/herself to the potty every time they need to go? Or do they usually have a set time where everyone goes potty? Im asking because ds is mostly potty trained, but if he gets involved in something and doesnt get reminded he will have an accident.

It's my understanding that a preschooler will be potty trained and can ask for wiping assistance if needed. They are not reminded to go unless they are going on a field trip then they will line up to "go" before getting on the bus.

For our preschool you can let them know and they'll help. But really the expectation is that they are fully potty trained ie being able to know when to go and doing everything to go themselves.

At our preschool, they encourage them to go at set times, usually before going out to recess, and help where needed. In preschool, they ask everyone to bring extra clothes and expect occasional accidents, even with four-year-olds. Dd's three-year class has one girl in training pants still working on potty-training and they seemed relaxed about that. It depends on the school, so I would just ask.

IMO they will usually have a set time or times (depending on the length of time your child is there) that all of the children go and they are expected to be able to use the potty independantly. Accidents happen but I know of cases where the parent wanted the child to go and sent them in undies even thought they knew they weren't trained. That lasted about a week before the school said he needed to wait awhile and work on PTing before returning.
A daycare center with a pre-school program will be more accomidating that a freestanding pre-school only program since the day care would be used to diapers anyway.

Having worked in Preschool and Daycare, there are usually set times of day to go, (ie. before going outside, on an outing, before nap/lunch/snack, midmorning if nothing else is going on....) but outside of those times children are expected to take themselves. However, if you are concerned, tell the teachers how you know when your son needs to go (does he isolate himself? Dance? Hold himself?) and they will keep an eye out.
Trust me, they don't want him to have an accident anymore than you do!
Pee on the floor is no fun to clean up. (But an expected part of the job!)

They're expected to take themselves, some help is provided if needed. There is only one place in town (DDs preschool) that allows Pull Ups. All the others were "must be potty trained."

DD's preschool actually encourages pull-ups or cloth training pants, with outer clothing that is easy to remove. Extra pull-ups and clthes are kept in each child's cubby. It's a half day program and they ask the parents to take the child to the potty when they arrive and then they take the children after snack (before going outside). If a child asks they'll take them to the potty but they only "plan" on taking them once each day.
FWIW their handbook says potty training is "suggested but not required" for 2 and 3 year olds and "requested" for 4 year olds.

If your child gets involved in activities and then forgets to go, tell his teacher that. Most teachers will be glad to give reminders (though they might forget to do so themselves sometimes!), and if they're not willing, that would tell me something important about the teacher.
