Supplies Limited! Reserve Yours Now!

That's what the post in the exam room of my ped's office said about the new flu-mist vaccine. The top said "Available Soon!" and that you should get your name on the list by July 31, to be able to receive it because supplies are limited.

I just had a mental pic of parents standing in line down the hall of the office to give this to their children.

Hey, now. If I were to stand in line for a vaccine, at least I'd like to get one that is administered in the same way the disease transfers.

Of course, if it's so wonderful and helpful, don't you think the manufacturors have an obligation to make it available to everyone? I can't see the ethics of a "limited" release pharmacetecal.

ditto apricot.

though sometimes in my paraniod mind, i wonder if the limited release stuff is that way so the researchers can see what happens when some people use it before releasing it to all of us.

the flu vax in general makes absolutely NO sense to me at all.

UGH even when I was young, uneducated, and naive I didn't see the sense in flu vax.

I was reading the pediatrician email archives list thingie and they were discussing this. it seems at least one of them arent using it, because its $47 (I guess thats alot) and its gunna be cash and carry cuz the reps said insurance may not reemburse for it. They dont want to buy it and get screwed. But then one of them said that the pharm. company (he said the Prevnar rep) will allow a return of up to 20, so the doc said to just order 20, and if someone buys one, great...but if not you can get your money back. they also said its only for ages 5-49 without asthma, and 2 doses for those under 9 years. 83-87% protection rate

so supplies certainly dont seem 'limited' and in fact probably cant give these away....in fact one guy even said to the rep that he could probably sell the smallpox vaccine much more easily than the flumist.

wierdos.

I didn't think of that, but I think you're right on! A little test run of the machinery to manufacture and a little test run on the side effects. Perfect roll-out!

I think this was just the pediatricians way of getting people to rush to sign up, making them feel that they'd miss out if they didn't ask for it now. If you have an older child that may only visit once a year, unless sick, they may not catch an opportunity to market to again until next year.

ASSOCIATED PRESS
A flu vaccine that is the first to be delivered by a squirt up the nose instead of a needle in the arm has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for healthy people from 5 to 49.

I guess that would be a little more natural, but still unnecessary

up the nose

The panel said the drug would not be appropriate for people who most need vaccine protection from influenza: toddlers, the elderly and people with asthma or other chronic diseases.
why even bother then, ever, ugh
