Every paint place I go to and ask for low VOC paint, they look at me like :

Where do I go to get this stuff?

Sherwin Williams has one and Behr (sold at The Home Depot) is too, but it is not advertised as such, must read the teeny tiny writing on the can to get the VOC info.

I bought some at Lowe's once and another time at Fred Meyer. The one at Fred Meyer was labeled as being for kids' rooms.

IME, regular hardware stores (like ACE, True Value) don't carry it and look at you like you're a nutbar if you ask for it.

My local hardware store sells Benjamin Moore paints and we bought ours there. By the way, the Benjamin Moore paint was wonderful to use - great coverage and no fumes. Loved it. If you don't know who your local Benjamin Moore dealer is, their website will guide you once you enter your zip code.

Benjamin Moore paints are low VOC? Or they sell a low VOC paint?

Ben Moore sells a low-VOC paint. So does MAB, Sherwin Williams, and Dutch Boy. There are also other brands that are only low or no-VOC, but I can't remember what they are right now.

I used Boomerang paint from Rona. I didn't see it mentioned on the website, but on the can, it says it's low VOC. I chose wheat and berry. I love it.

In my state, PA, all paint that is sold will be VOC free within the next year or so. I'm pretty happy about it, except (no flames, please! I know, I know!) that all my baseboards & woodwork in my 100+ old house are painted in oil. It's hard to paint latex over oil...plus, it lasts a long time on the woodwork, which takes a beating.

Anyway, if you are asking just any old clerk, they may not know. Find the old guy! He'll be able to help you. A lot more paint is low or no VOC than you think!

I bought some at Lowes (we had a gift card) - it's Olympic Premium, or something like that.
