Can anyone recommend an alternative to those nasty Ziploc bags? I'm trying to phase them out of my life.

Freezer paper sealed with masking tape works okay-- you need a couple of layers and a tightly folded closure to make it airtight, but it does work. Tinfoil I have found to be not as good, as it doesn't keep the moisture from sublimating out-- not airtight enough. Some people freeze in mason jars (put the lid on after it's frozen, and thaw slowly to avoid cracking).

Canning jars w/ plastic lids instead of metal rings (you can get them in Regular and Wide Mouth for $3/12 or less). Jars are under $10/12 new, and there are tons at garage sales/thrift stores and Freecycle!

I love love love these glass tupperware-type containers i got from ikea yesterday!! I want to go back and buy a whole bunch more!! They come in different capacities, have grooves that stack and they seal really well. It says they are safe for the freezer.
