for fuzzi bunz users--

so i broke down and decided to just get my stash. i went with FB cause they seem the most "user friendly"

ordered 1 doz. small and 2 doz. hemparoo inserts. (OUCH!! for my mom's budget, she actually bought them for me )

will that get me through the first couple of months? washing how often? daily or every other day?

For a newborn? Daily washing. I went through about a dozen diapers a day with a newborn. But you probably will only need to use one insert per FB. When baby starts sleeping longer hours at night you may need 2 or 3 inserts for night, though.

Oh yeah! Heather's post reminded me! Caden also squirted in every diaper! It was definitely more like 16 diapers a day we went through, now that I think about it.

Yep, one insert for a newborn and definitely a dozen a day or more. Kenny would do 12 to 15 diapers a day as a newborn because he 'squirted' in nearly every one! :LOL

My son was actually too small for the size smalls when he was born! He weighed 6 lbs 10 oz, and the legs on the small FBs weren't snug enough. Snug leg fit is a must with a FB. When he finally fit into them, they fit until he was 15 weeks old.

12 diapers might get you through one day. We started out with 17 fitted diapers and we did laundry every day. I think we've averaged 15 diapers a day.

I just had 12 also when my son was very young. I went thru them all daily. Sometimes I had to grab a prefold to use while the FB were washing but I made it with just 12. Good luck everything.

You might want to get a few inexpensive covers, then you can use your extra inserts in side the covers when your FBs are in the wash.

Joeys will go very well in a cover for a NB. So...if you have a few covers, you can definitely make it through with the extra joeys you have.

I was thinking the same thing. You will probably have a lot of extra Joeys. Buy some Prowraps and/or Bummis to use those inserts and you will get thorough a day and a half.

ok, the last question, i promise!! i think i have this right, but just want to make sure. everytime you change the babe, you change everything, FB *and* insert, right? and if i were using a permeable diape, such as a kissaluvs, i could just change the diape and keep the cover for a few more times, yes?

Yep.

Oh yeah, you can fit a lot in there! At night, we use either two JBs (hemparoos), or a JB and a cpf. That combo is bulkier, but it's really absorbant. I also got a few Happy Heiny stuffins to try, and they work well too in there.

Joeys (JBs) are the hemparoos you already have. Prowraps and bummis are two types of covers you can buy at several different places. I've never tried prowraps, but we use the bummis super whisper wrap and I love it.

As long as the cover isn't wet or soiled. If it's soiled, into the wash it goes. If it's wet, just air it out and use it again when it's dry.

Joeys are the hemparoo inserts that you bought.

Proraps and Bummis are diaper wraps (covers). You will need a wrap in order to use a joey as a "diaper" for your newborn. A pull-on cover will not keep it in place.

This is where I bought my bummis. They are out of canada. They have a special price if you buy at least 4 and you get free shipping. Best price I've found on bummis, but someone else may know of another source.

There was a site that someone had posted where they had 6 joeys for 24.95 and free shipping. That was a great deal, too. It was in another thread...can't remember what it was tho.


I've never used proraps and from what I've read/heard, the general consensus is that bummis are better. I really like mine.

I just assumed you bought Joey Bunz Hemparoos ("Joeys"). Babykicks also makes Prefold Hemparoos. Either one of those will be fine in a Fuzzi Bunz or a wrap-like cover. I think you have plenty of them. You will probably only need 13-14 for your Fuzzi Bunz if you use 1 inside during the day and 2 at night. So, that leaves you 10 or 11 that will not be used in your Fuzzi Bunz which you could use with other covers.

Prowraps and Bummis are covers. I bought some at http://www.naturalbabies.com. Just make sure to get the snap or velcro/aplix type so you can lay the insert inside.

If they have velcro/aplix or snaps they may work fine.

Yes. The fleece gets wet so you need to change everytime.

I used disposies for the first month. If you don't plan to do this, I would suggest getting a few fitted diapers like kissaluvs as well. My 8.5 pound newborn didn't fit very well into Fuzzi Bunz for about a month. If the leg holes are not snug with a breastfed baby you could have some explosions not to mention leaks. Prefolds are cheaper - I personally have never been able to get them on right. You mentioned you want easy.

yeah, the covers i have all have velcro or applix.

i do have one happy heinys that came in a sampler i got some time ago. so i'll try that for nighttime, too.

i'm planning on using disposables for the first week or so, just till i get it together with the CDs. i do have a couple of kissaluvs and a cuddle buns, from that sampler as well.

I think you're going to be golden. I had only 12 fb and 14 terry inserts (less absorbent than joeys) and we were totally fine for about 2 months. I used sposies for about 3 days, they leaked everywhere. The fb didn't leak at all. He was 7 pounds 10 ounces. Congratulations on your daughter to be! Oh, we did diapers every day for a while, then fairly quickly went to every other day. Honestly we did more loads of mama and baby clothes and blankets from all that breast milk.

I think you'll be fine, maybe very early on you'll need to wash your FB every day but they dry SO quickly and are so easy to wash. The inserts you could probably go two days. I have been waiting on the last five Happy Heiny's I ordered so have been making do with 11 and that's been enough with my 4.5 month old to wash every second day. I've got a dozen infant prefolds and couple of bumkins covers in the drawer, occasionally I'll run out and need to use one.

At any rate, with 2 doz inserts if you do find you need more FB, you only have to buy those and not the inserts too.

By the way, I found the joeybunz (or any other hemp insert for that matter) actually work really well just laid in a cover too, although my daughter did not poo explosively. Alternatively if you want to reuse a FB, dont stuff the insert in the pocket, just lay it over the fleece for the second time.
