I have not had an US with this pregancy. I know that my Midwife will be excpet to do one this week since I am a week over to check fluid levels. ( I think is a dumb reason to do one) I am planning a home birth so I can see were making sure the baby is health would be benifacial? But I also don't want get worry about nothing? I need so advice. Do I do it and hope very thing is fine or refuse.t

I'm planning a homebirth with a midwife also, and I'll be a week over tomorrow. My midwife is doing a non-stress test this week, and the ultrasound will be next week. Perhaps you could ask if it could be postponed one more week?

If I was intentionally avoiding an ultrasound, I wouldn't consent to one until 42 weeks, and that's only if not having one would cause my mw to drop me.

I personally chose to have one this pregnancy, however I think that having an ultrasound this late in the game can start quite the slippery slope.

A NST and ultrasound are non-invasive, easy procedures to get done that I would want to do it for my own knowledge. There is no harm in checking and then YOU can make a decision from there based on the results. No one can drag you into the hospital...

Keep drinking a gallon of water per day...

Just discussed this with my homebirth midwife today. My backup practice wants me in for a biophysical profile on Friday (41 wks). I am pushing it to Monday. We hope I won't be pregnant by then. If I am then I will be sure to drink lots of water. Dehydration can give you "low amniotic fluid level" results. If the results are poor you can insist on coming back later after eating and drinking. Sometimes the window of time they are observing can be misleading.

My midwife did a non stress test today. I never thought about the fact you don't need a special machine to do it.

Do you feel fetal movement is good and heartrate shows good variability? You already know that fluid level estimates are unreliable. How will the information you gain change your course of action?

That is pretty much my feeling too. I get more infomation from be with this baby 24 / 7 then they can get from their MACHINES in 5-20 min peek. I hate the fact that the medicial profession is so hung up on TESTS, that as mothers we don't know what is going on with our babies/bodies??????
Thank for all you input. I think I will do the non-stress test this week and push the us back to next week or not at all. I am hoping that this baby comes soon.
